if you were given a chance then who will you choose as a team member?

this is grammatically correct statement.
but i am confused with its tense. which tense should it be if i am talking to person in present tense?
and this construction is using past tense as it have were. so can i speak it in present ?
which one is correct past or preset?

another problem :
i ate a mango
mango was eaten by me

i know that it is voice but don't you think that the second statement is violating the rules of tenses as it is using was and past participle in the same statement?
or mango had eaten by me is correct one?

all bold statements are grammatically correct.

The mango example describes a difference between the active and passive voice. The first one should use a present perfect tense.

How does that violate the rules when the word "was" is used as a helping verb....................the other should be "The mango had been eaten by me" I believe

Title is perfect for discussing the topic.

Anyway in first sentence it clearly asks "who will you choose" so the process still continues. If it was past and done it would be "would" instead of "will".

In mango examples; all sentences are correct. But due to active/passive and focal elements of sentences they can give answers to slightly different questions.
"I ate a mango" would answer questions like "What did you do?" or "What did you eat?" while the other two sentences would answer questions like "what happened to mango?"
