But did he unlock it with his own eyes that he had from birth or with the transplanted eyes from his older brother?

That's just how the Sharingan works.
Itachi wouldn't have unlocked MS without Shisui,
Sasuke wouldn't have been able to obtain EMS without Itachi's eyes.

Madara would never have been able to obtain EMS without Izuna
Madara wouldn't have been able to obtain the Rinnegan without Hashirama's Ashura chakra

Naruto wouldn't have been able to obtain Rikudo Sage mode without Hagoromo and all 9 bijuu
Sasuke wouldn't have been able to obtain Rinnegan without the aid of Hagoromo

Minato wouldn't be able to perform flying thunder god or reaper death seal without learning them from Uzumaki clan jutsu.

See the trend here? Just because someone bestowed the materials to awaken the power doesn't mean it doesn't belong to them. the whole definition of "gift" is someone relinquishing ownership of something to another. It is no longer the gifter's but the giftee's now.

Can I see the link and the Databook statement, because Databook from what I have heard from the people that have translated it, is that it doesn't cover the final fight and Sasuke's Rinnegan.
