If you can think the head, and you understand that Kishi sometimes uses hyperboles, there is no problem with understanding of the reference book any.

Giving a Jutsu a new nickname does not change it from an A-Ranked Jutsu to an S-Ranked.

1. they are the -exact- same jutsu

2. the databook is not canon; its not even literature. the databook can't overwrite the manga

3. the reason that there are two names is a fanservice to both kakashi & sasuke, while their feats w/ rai'ton do all the talking. one cuts lightning bolts in half while the other tamed lightning itself

4. base chidori is already the pinnacle of nature manipulation just as the basic rasengan is already the pinnacle of shape manipulation. saying there is a more refined chidori or rasengan is a canonical fallacy.

5. the many ''variants'' that originate from the jutsu have nothing to do w/ ranks or any differential in the databook, which is why each variant even has its own name.

The databooks simply explains cannon material in more detail that were unexplained in the manga.

What ever ranking the databook gives Jutsu's is final, No debate, No discussion is required. The very fact the manga author gave raikiri an S-Rank and chidori an A-Ranked proves that they are indeed not the exact same jutsu with just different names.

It's not just kisame. Madara's name was forgotten too. So a man with bad memory is liable to forget why a jutsu has a different name.

This is what DB says, ''Raikiri'' is nothing more than a nickname of Chidori. His jutsu didn't changed suddenly after he cut a lightning bolt with it.

It's hilarious that people here believe that S rank means more powerful or better or refined, or whichever garbage Kakashi fans have taught themselves to post here over the years, but according to Databook IV, S simply means Secret.

Which would explain the nickname given to the tech as it cut a lightning bolt.

Also, before teaching it to Sasuke, it was a Secret or S rank tech as it's an assassination technique and Kakashi taught it to no one before Sasuke. Learn to use a bit of common sense, which I know isn't that common on this base, but use it nonetheless.
