The distance limit is 10 meters in general according to DB. However as shown in the manga when he switched with sakura's jacket (which was more than 10 meters away) the distance is increased if he's switching places with something within his peripheral vision. With the technique mastered he can travel longer distances and even go through dimensions, however this does put a great strain on him,and doing this repeatedly causes the eye to weaken to regular Rinnegan which subsequently affects his EMS as well. Until the eye recharges back to full power, until then the 10 meter limit is imposed (unless swapping).
