It's an interesting thing at times to observe throughout the years on the behavior pattern of these overly-protective shipping fans, and considering the stance that things seem to have went before and after the release of chapter 700 and after the events of Naruto Gaiden, it seems to have went into a very interesting yet confusing direction.
How did these people go from "Narusaku" vs "Naruhina" to "Naruhina" vs "Sasusaku" ? After the release of chapter 700 it was almost as if the two shipping fans that were somewhat aligned with one another, rooting for their respective characters (Naruto and Hinata, Sakura and Sasuke) to end up together and seeing as how they did (well, seemingly at the time) when the final chapter launched.
(I always though this image was amusing, admittedly.)
All seemed well and all during that brief period after the Naruto manga ended, only until the release of Naruto Gaiden where some unfortunate news concerning Sarada's lineage was brought into question. And instead of rekindling their "shipping war" with "SasuKarin" and it's fanbase, the Sakura/Sasuke shipping fans instead turned their targets onto "NaruHina" instead.
It's the equivalent of witnessing the relationship between twin sisters who used to work for their respective yet similar goal suddenly going awry, with one stabbing the other after seeing how her respective choices did not go as planned. It's a metaphor of describing how some rabid Sakura fans have been going out of their way to lash out at any other couple in the Naruto series that ultimately became canon, the most noticeable target from what I observed being Naruto and Hinata.
I know that this completely sound ridiculous to be written in the form of a thread, but I am already spouting nonsense by discussing hypothetical couples and it's rabid fanbase yet it seems to be something that I like to observe from time to time.
