My theory is because sakura has that issue of passing out all the time. She was to weak to carry the baby. So sasuke got Karin to help by most likely getting sakura to bite her. And that's how the DNA was transferred over to Sarada.

I think making all of Gaiden into a pointless troll would be dumb. If anything it'd make more sense discovering Karin is her biological mother and still choosing Sakura. You know you don't have to love someone just because they're related to you, right?

This gaiden is already a pointless troll. The main villain turned out to be a failed experiment who was just an Itachi fanboy, that same man was just taken out by Sakura, and the main threat, greater than Kaguya isn't even known yet.

The fact that Sarada's mommy issues are taking precedence over the universe-ending villain should tell you enough.
