Race isn't really a factor albeit minorities like blacks and hispanics, do a lot of the crime or are locked up for it. Usually people ages 18 to 30 are in prison or have committed a crime. Also these people are usually males, females are like a miniscule amount of inmates. Another point is that majority of these crimes are done by people with low income and often lacking college or high school education. Another small tidbit is that a few laws actually target actions a poor person would do instead of rich or even middle class person. For instance the years for crack or cocaine is different, and the difference between 'blue collar crimes' vs 'white colar' crimes.

Believe the uniform crime report(?)gives accurate statistics on the crime amongst the USA and other details. It's also done yearly I believe.

There is probably more violence in the poorer towns so make sure to research those. Poverty and poor education tends to spark violence and unrest

Chi City. - Chicago.

Just 4 day's ago I was walking whit my GF to her new job and some ******* Gangbanger came up to me & my GF at around 10 PM. He told me if I was SD ( it's a gang here) and I walk right past him whit a mad look and he keep whistling at his boy's who where in a car park at a parking lot of Target. They didn't follow me, maybe there busying smoking weed or crack, who knows.

But this happen a lot here, I got jump once too. ( By 9 Grow man for confusing me for another teen)

Chi Town ( Chicago) has the Highest recorded off stopping civilian's, ( In The US) most of them is for no "Reason". I'm Mexican & American ( was born here) and I get stop at least 9 - 11 times a year normally. 2 or 3 of them are really bad ( like being thrown to the ground or being handcuff for a long time)

Income inequality + poor education = Violence. Follow the money, or the lack thereof.

I'd suggest focusing on Detroit. That is literally the most violent place in the US right. The auto industry there died and the city is filled with violence and poverty.

I went through there and everyone I met had a gun or someone with a gun with them. Because the cops don't respond because of all the crimes that are happening.

It's literally the perfect example and has all kinds of data you can use.

Actually our police department is pretty bad, not because of the surplus of crime but because of the department being neglected for years. Believe the police department is also lacking money and officers. Also the cutback on the precincts around the city, which only made it worse....

There is a lot of crime there though, you can't deny that. Especially compared to the rest of the US and I've been everywhere in the states. If the police aren't responding more crimes will happen it's just logical.

I wasn't even there for more than a few days and I saw two people get robbed. -_-

Indeed there is. Unfortunately more police isn't going to stop the circumstances that cause this crime, such as poverty, poor education, urban blight, and the overall problem Detroit is in. City in itself has fallen on some bad times, although it's slowly getting better. Although more police would make everyone feel safer.

I think you misunderstood. The point is that blacks are overrepresented in criminal statistics. They make up about 12% of the population but are responsible for 28% of the crimes. Whites make up 80% of population, but are responsible for only 69% of the crimes.

Define "violence."

Are we talking about violent crime?

In which case, I'd direct you to the FBI's various statistical publications on that issue. I recommend starting with the standards used to gather the statistics, first:

That way, you can have an idea of what the various terms and criteria are behind each reported category.

You can also research various criticisms of their statistics and data collection methods to include those points in your research paper.

Finding solid statistics on violence outside of crime is fairly difficult since violence is a somewhat relative term. Some people would call my brothers wrestling on the trampoline and my parents allowing it "violent culture."

Violence in media is also somewhat difficult to nail down. Some people consider movies about war to be 'violent media' while rap songs about smacking hos is 'expression.'

I would recommend that you start your paper off by exploring the different concepts of violence and what they mean to different cultures, since violence is a somewhat subjective concept. While I was in the military and training alongside Marines, they would stand around and kick each other in the shins or other places for 'bone hardening.' They would also break out into spontaneous wrestling matches without much warning or prompt.

It wasn't 'violent' in that they weren't intending to harm each other, but they were engaging in a contest of power (or a mutual quest to make themselves more durable in the case of bone hardening). I don't consider it 'violent' - but it is admittedly a culture bred to be able to enact extreme violence against a designated objective.

The closest standard I think you're going to get is what the FBI categorizes as violent crime - but it's still a good idea to explore the subjective nature of violence from a cultural perspective.

What you mention are symptoms of criminal mindsets, not causes.

My grandmother grew up in a house with a dirt floor. She wasn't a criminal.

I know many people who have lived without a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of (an old time expression meaning 'poor') - the worst crimes they ever committed would have been running afoul of the game warden for hunting something out of season. They didn't steal from stores, shoot at people around them, rape the neighbors, etc.

Because their parents beat their ass as a kid.

That's pretty much what it boils down to. When the parents aren't around to instill some discipline and be role models in the lives of their children - the children generally grow up to be animals.

These animals may happen to be poor because they can barely function within the rest of society on account of poor behavior and unrealistic expectations of reward - they may destroy the environment around them; but the cause of their problem is that they simply were not raised properly.

As Thomas Sowel has stated: "Each generation of children is effectively an invasion of little barbarians that must be civilized before it is too late."

Now, we can look at what broke families apart - but that is a bit more than I have time for at the moment.
