I liked that Yamato was made relevant in the Gaiden after seemingly being casted off for so long in pt 2. Though it was kinda arrogant of Naruto, Kakashi and Yamato thinking Yamato was capable enough to tail Orochimaru unnoticed. Even Kabuto before the war was able to sense Yamato tailing him.
