first off how do they know that this can give immortality .... ? if the former user used it who did he use it for..?

also its stated the user dies if used on someone..? what if the user uses it on himself?? how would that work??
what do u guys think immortal law (fangirling here lol) (well i mean he can still be killed most likely he just cant die from lack of blood or disease age etc. u would have to do something similar to what akainu did to ace...)

Diez Barrels confirmed the existence of a previous doctor who could heal any type of illnesses

Dr Kureha is still fit and healthy past 141 years of age and Oda said the timelimit a human being can live in the One Piece world is 140year old and when asked why Dr Kureha is still alive, he added that she goes beyond other people

The secret of her youthfulness was also questioned before

So i believe that doctor in particular had the ope ope no mi and granted immortality to Dr Kureha for one reason or another. Could also explain Dr Kureha's advance medical knowledge

I have been wondering about the same thing for ages. How is it that they know that the Ope Ope no Mi can grant someone immortality unless someone became immortality? On top of that that person should have told other people about it.

I sincerely doubt though that the user of the Ope Ope no Mi can use it on himself. If that was the case, then it shouldn't be at the cost of the user's life. Simplified it would probably something like that the user needs to trade in his own to grant the immortality and that can't really work on himself.

no real theory behind it but i was thinking alone the lines of a life force transplant surgery, and that being why he has to lose his ownn life to grant someone else immortality

The main question here is "how old are the devil fruits ?!!?" are they as old as the void century ? if that's the case at least dozens of users were to have this devil fruit ! one of them could expose its true potential !!
