So I was doing this myers briggs test in the hopes that I learn more about myself and things I do that I usually don't pay attention to about myself. Usually your image of who you are is clouded by your experience and very misleading, reality is often much different and can surprise even yourself.

Anyway, I came across this question and didn't know what to answer, they want me to answer yes or no. However I'm torn because on one hand I believe justice should be given equally without mercy but on the other hand think that would be unfair to people who are innocently blamed for crimes they did not commit. What do you think of this?

It depends on what the charge is, as well as the sentence

I believe in justice, however if justice is being in used for revenge or something more or less negative, I would favor mercy.

I think that this isn't a simple yes or no question. It always depends on the situation, honestly.

Mercy is a human attitude, while justice is something only a set of humans think is right.

Even though sometimes justice is more morally correct, we should never abandon what we are. We are humans, so we should show that by giving mercy to someone, who is still connected to life.

Those who commit acts of evil and consistently do so with awareness that they are doing so, do not deserve mercy. However, yes mercy

I assume that none of you have been through our actual justice system.

This is a good GD thread, nice job.

OT: Personally I value justice more, I also believe there is mercy in justice. You can deliver merciful justice to someone, but mercy alone can be taken as weakness. While some people value mercy and would be grateful, most would see it as getting away with something.

Even if all justice systems had a set number of years as a sentence for each specific crime. I would argue that aslong as innocent people get convicted that there is no justice. Who pays for the wrong sentence of a person? Shouldn't the judges get punished?

You can never know the doer of the crime was really sorry for what he/she did, and seeks forgiveness and is forgiven. The possibility he/she faking it is quite high.

I think mercy is the best way for all parties to move on in a lot of cases but there are times where justice must be upheld to the fullest extent.

Justice without mercy means those who commit wrongs are punished regardless of their reasons or circumstances

I can't get behind that. imo mercy and justice must work hand in hand. Laws must be created so that justice and mercy are carried out evenly. (though i doubt whether it is possible to be done perfectly)

They can go hand in hand. Giving someone life in prison for stealing a candy bar is both unmerciful and injustice, for example. Justice is simply what's warranted, and mercy can be what's warranted.

Everything is open to human predilection, there really is not right or wrong answer, so it seems

If a person commits a crime then their reason shouldn't even be relevant. No matter what their unique life experience was that lead up to that point, they still broke the law and should therefore be punished just as a person who did the same thing with the full intention of breaking it. We can't be favoring one person over another when they commited the same crime because there is no justice then, if two people were convicted of murder and one used a gun and another a knife then they should get the same sentence. However, even saying this I can only support this view if the other person isn't wrongly accused.

So, if I come home and find someone attempting to rape my child and I hit them over the head with a heavy object to protect my child, I deserve the same sentence as a man who steps out of his house and shoots a man because that's how he gets his rocks off?
