While Yamato is indeed a formidable opponent, his downfall in this matchup is Darui's ability to partially replicate Sasuke's feats during team 7's brief skirmish with the latter. Here, we saw just how effective swordplay and Raiton was against Yamato's watered down Mokuton [ ], being able to casually bust out of a wood dome with virtually zero effort; a feat which can done significantly easier with a channelled sword [ ]. Darui's ability to replicate this isn't good for Yamato at all, as he can casually dice through the vast majority of Yamato's arsenal with his channelled blade, which seems to be too linear and direct as shown by his fight with Kakuzu and Sasuke [ ]-[ ]-[ ]. Not ideal, as Darui's speed and precision is significantly above Yamato's which allows him to not only dodge his attacks, but to launch a counter attack of his own with superior speed and unblockable Raiton streamed attacks [ ]. Darui's reactions permit such things as 1) Yamato's Mokuton isn't all that fast and 2) Darui is no slouch in that department. He was able to dodge Kinkaku's attack [ ] which caught Samui off guard, as well as being able to dodge an attack from transformed Kinkaku [ ], who's speed should increase exponentially as we've seen in previous jinchuriki transformations. Yet, he was never able to blitz Darui, reducing Yamato's chances of catching Darui to null. If Yamato does use multiple Mokuton branches in an attempt to overwhelm Darui (similar to but with a more omnidirectional advance), the latter can use his evasiveness to retreat while releasing Raiton streamed shuriken to dice through them; this is inevitable as Darui was able to cut through Bee's metal blade in one swoop, which should make Yamato's mokuton easy in comparison [ ]. Yamato in CQC is shown to either utilise a kunai or basic taijutsu, both of which would be useless against Darui. With Yamato's offense being easy pickings for Darui, all that's left is how Darui himself kills Yamato.

This is a lot easier than it may appear. Intel is a key factor in this battle, and through manga knowledge they basically have no intel on each other. This is where Darui can effectively utilise his Ranton: Laser circus. Unfortunately for Yamato, not knowing about this justu will lead to him getting hit by it. Laser circus is a guided missile [ ]. If Yamato erects a wood wall like he did or and which he'd most likely do due to it's seemingly direct nature, Darui can alter the missile's position to go around the dome and strike Yamato, paralyzing him for a brief period. Due to this technique's vast AoE [ ], dodging it is extremely hard and Yamato cannot avoid it physically.

Once paralyzed or struck by this jutsu, Darui can utilise his superior speed to blitz Yamato. His speed was on full display against the Gold and Silver brothers, effectively blitzing Kinkaku and severing a limb, a fate Yamato won't be able to recover from [ ]. His speed, again, was shown during the Kage summit where he not only attacked in tandem with Ay during a surprise blitz on Sasuke, but he also recovered quick enough to rescue Cee from Suigetsu's assault [ ]. I really don't see how Yamato can overcome this attack based on the information he has on Darui's jutsu, as well as Darui having the clear advantage in speed.

Now let me remind you of the advantages Darui has and will exploit against Yamato;

  • Better speed and reactions, allowing him to not only dodge Yamato's mokuton but also conduct a counterattack
  • Intel benefitting Darui more so than Yamato; particularly Darui's ranton which has guided properties making Yamato, who is ignorant to this, a sitting duck.
  • Most importantly, Darui's ability to stream Raiton which allows him to effectively dice through all of Yamato's attacks while simultaneously advancing towards Yamato himself.

You.Come.Now

My main strategy for Yamato winning here is restraint and chakra suppression.

In regards to the elemental advantage here, I was already aware that Darui had the advantage so I won't even argue that point. Not that it will hinder my argument's yamato is a capable shinobi and I can come up with strategies.

Essentially the first paragraph you went through the basics while the elemental advantage being the main being brought up since it's the biggest deciding factor here. Some things I do not agree with though But Ill be going around your argument.

Due to this technique's vast AoE [ ], dodging it is extremely hard and Yamato cannot avoid it physically]

Yamato has ways to counter/evade Laser circus quiet, it would only be a major a problem if he is in mid air due to it being guided but if he is on the ground it's that much easier.

1. First off knowing that his mukoton is weak against lightning I don't see how much sense it would make for yamato to use a wood dome when realistically the laser circus would still probably go through the wood dome. Yamato doesn't have to know it can be guided when common sense would tell him the dome isn't even stopping the attack in the first place.

2. How Yamato can evade/counter Laser circus? Yamato can use the attack prevention technique, which allows the user to merge with the environment to evade attacks. Don't know what Im talking about? We'eve seen orochimaru use it against Anku in the forest of death[ ].

We have also seen yamato use the jutsu as well[ ]

Judges as you can see Yamato has a method to evade Darui's raiton attack with the use of merging with the environment.

Counter Laser circus?

Yamato was capable of anticipating the use of orochimaru using snake arms and swap himself with a wood clones, the same method would be applied to laser circus but then the real yamato can counter with tearing the earth apart[ ][ ], beneath Darui catching him to slip and then attempt to restrain him via mukoton branches.

attack prevention technique or this method works well with yamato catching Darui off guard and the use of wood clones makes it all easier. Especially the fact that wood clones can also be put on the offensive but ill get into the later.

My main point for this part is simply establishing that laser circus won't be yamato's end.

Already addressed how yamato can counter laser circus. I will agree though Darui's speed can prove to be troublesome but at the same time Yamato is no sloth.

Enhanced instincts - [ ]

Note the fact that he was able to get between sasuke and sakura

Also it appears to me that he was capable of tracking/following up on sasuke's shunshin in these two scans

Possible self healing minor cuts/wounds with senju dna?

Just to throw it out there, it seems as though when , . I thought it was noteworthy to bring this up since it may come in handy against Darui if yamato suffers any minor wounds.

Now let me remind you of the advantages Darui has and will exploit against Yamato;

  • Better Speed? Sure as the manga has demonstrated Darui's speed more than yamato so your statement holds wait. But at the same time Yamato should have standard speed, he does have a 4 in the db for speed, while someone like hidan has a 3.5 and was able to keep up with kakashi in cqc.

Reactions? Meh I guess. Yes darui is able to dodge mukoton but way your going about it is too simple. His mukoton manipulation is quite diverse.

Him flowing raiton into his sword to cut through yamato's mukotton is cool and all but with wood clones and the various angles that the mukoton can come from, darui will be faced with it from all around him and under him Which ill dive more into.

Once Darui displays lightning based attacks at the beginning of the match this will prompt Yamato to prepare for the worse.

He was able to dodge Kinkaku's attack [ ] which caught Samui off guard, as well as being able to dodge an attack from transformed Kinkaku [ ], who's speed should increase exponentially as we've seen in previous jinchuriki transformations. With Yamato's offense being easy pickings for Darui, all that's left is how Darui himself kills Yamato.

This part right here, I won't go much into because while at the same time you addressed facts but those facts can be rebuttal-ed in a strategic manner by me. Essential elemental advantage plays a big role here in this part of your post and obviously I can't deny them since I myself know those claims such as dauri enhancing his sword with raiton and etc... are true. But ill address some points

Judges I came to the conclusion that while my opponent is bringing the highlights of Darui such as his speed and reactions his isnt taking too much consideration into Mukoton manipulation, plainly obviously when he said it's too linear.

Anyways the way for Yamato to win this match is restraint and chakra suppression as I said above. My opponent doesnt understand how mukoton can be used. It seems as though he thinks the mukoton will simply come straight to darui allowing him to cut them via raiton.

First off the mukoton can come from all angles very quickly

    Manga supported^

Judges as you can see the mukoton will be coming from directly under Darui. Okay, yamato throws mukoton straight at darui's face? He evades and then a wood clones sprouts mukoton brances directly under Darui to restrain him.

straight forward linear mukoton will be used as a distraction while a wood clone executes the real trap.

How does restraining darui give yamato the win? Won't darui simply just use black panther since it requires only one hand seal even if he gets restrained via mukoton?

As shown against kisame yamato is able to not only supress the chakra of tailed beasts but also ninja
You must be registered for see images

if im following this correctly Yamato has kisame's chakra compressed via mukoton, the same will happen to darui preventing him from molding chakra to perform jutsu and attempt said black panther.

Yamato breaking out of mukoton restraint? Not happening when it was

Yamato doesn't have to know it can be guided when common sense would tell him the dome isn't even stopping the attack in the first place.]

I agree with you. I merely addressed wood domes etc.. as Mokuton is Yamato's primary arsenal and through the manga, we see that it is his choice of defence. But as you are taking a different route, lets continue.

2. How Yamato can evade/counter Laser circus? Yamato can use the attack prevention technique, which allows the user to merge with the environment to evade attacks. Don't know what Im talking about? We'eve seen orochimaru use it against Anku in the forest of death[ ].

Judges as you can see Yamato has a method to evade Darui's raiton attack with the use of merging with the environment..

  • Attack prevention works by assimilating the users body into the earth. Basically, his body is still existent under the surface meaning Darui still has means to reach Yamato through Ranton's piercing properties [ ]. If Darui physically sees Yamato sending his body underground or to a tree in the surroundings, he can still aim his Ranton there and due to it's extreme AoE consisting of dozens of beams [ ] attacking the target at once, one or the other is bound to hit Yamato who's going to be within the vicinity; my proposition is similar to how Sakura revealed Kakashi's location by destroying the surrounding area [ ]
  • How fast does it take for Yamato to send his body underground or to assimilate it with the neighbouring environment? For a jutsu that's already stated to be fast [ ], by the time Yamato merges Darui's Ranton will be within range to know exactly where his body lies and it's approximate perimeter; so as I have aforementioned above, one or the other is bound to hit Yamato due to it's extreme range. While attack prevention seems like a viable counter to... anything, it's actually not battle efficient. Refer to both of your scans. Yamato was using it to conduct espionage and Orochimaru was already hiding prior to Anko's arrival. Why haven't we actually seen this jutsu used to dodge an actual attack? Chew on that. Ranton is actually a perfect counter to it.

Counter Laser circus?

Yamato was capable of anticipating the use of orochimaru using snake arms and swap himself with a wood clones.

This scenario is dependant on me using laser circus while Yamato is stagnant. Unfortunately for you, we can use Ranton when you attack as a form of counterattack. You see, Darui is able to use Ranton while actively moving as shown here where Darui is in motion [ ], to when Ginkaku was struck by it only a page later allowing for Darui to execute the finisher[ ]. This strategy is perfect as Darui's speed and evasiveness can be used to avoid Yamato's Mokuton while simultaneously launching a counterattack of our own, giving Yamato no ample time to perform a Kawarami. Besides Precision, speed and numbers, Ranton also has a massive range [ ] allowing us to attack from sizeable distances. Besides, Kawarami only works so many times before the opposition is eventually caught.

, the same method would be applied to laser circus but then the real yamato can counter with tearing the earth apart[ ][ ], beneath Darui catching him to slip and then attempt to restrain him via mukoton branches..

attack prevention technique or this method works well with yamato catching Darui off guard and the use of wood clones makes it all easier. Especially the fact that wood clones can also be put on the offensive but ill get into the later.

My main point for this part is simply establishing that laser circus won't be yamato's end...

The initial crack in itself will trigger Darui's attention forcing him to be fully aware of his surrounding. As I've previously shown, Darui's reactions which allowed him to evade a transformed Kinkaku as well as evade them altogether [ ]-[ ]-[ ] on numerous occasions; here, you must remember Darui was exhausted from using the sage's tools which expend tremendous amounts of chakra. I really can't see a fresh Darui getting caught by these branches due to his speed (refer to post 1) and sufficient reactions; especially when he wasn't by a far more devastating duo such as the Gin/Kin bros.

Already addressed how yamato can counter laser circus. I will agree though Darui's speed can prove to be troublesome but at the same time Yamato is no sloth.

Enhanced instincts - [ ]

Note the fact that he was able to get between sasuke and sakura...

Eh, that's clearly hyperbole. Enhanced instincts? He literally saw Sakura run towards Sasuke and they were only like 10m [ ] away from each other. Although, he did do well to close that distance during Sasuke's approach. I'll give him that.

Also it appears to me that he was capable of tracking/following up on sasuke's shunshin in these two scans

...

No. He clearly got blitzed in those scans just like the rest of team 7. If he anticipated it he would of reacted. Except, he was still in the same spot. Yamato's "!!...!" exclamation in the first scan came as a result of Sasuke's sentence the panel above, talking about him sparing Naruto's life. Him admitting to Sasuke's speed is further testament to this.

Possible self healing minor cuts/wounds with senju dna?

Just to throw it out there, it seems as though when , . I thought it was noteworthy to bring this up since it may come in handy against Darui if yamato suffers any minor wounds.

He never closed the wound. He simply released Mokuton from that particular body part as Yamato's able to release Mokuton from every part of his body. Nothing in the manga implies he's able to close wounds. After reading ahead on those scans you presented, we never got a shot of Yamato's body after that stabbing, so you can't really prove it.

Better Speed? Sure as the manga has demonstrated Darui's speed more than yamato so your statement holds wait. But at the same time Yamato should have standard speed, he does have a 4 in the db for speed, while someone like hidan has a 3.5 and was able to keep up with kakashi in cqc..

Kakashi also had to be extra careful against Hidan as even a drop of blood from Hidan means his death. Hidan is a different story as to face him in CQC, you need to be extra cautious. I've no doubt Yamato has decent speed, but his lack of showing is what'll hurt him here. Lets also not forget
which undoubtedly helped keep up with Kakashi in CQC.

Him flowing raiton into his sword to cut through yamato's mukotton is cool and all but with wood clones and the various angles that the mukoton can come from, darui will be faced with it from all around him and under him Which ill dive more into...

Good thing we have omnidirectional attacks to take care of such a thing. If Yamato bombards us from different directions we can use Darui's evasiveness (as I've highlighted many times now) while utilising said strategies;

  • Shuriken assaults similar to but of course with Raiton. One or two at a time of course. These Raiton enhanced shuriken cut through Bee's metal sword like butter. This shouldn't be a problem and as Shuriken can occupate quite a large horizontal perimeter it can take out quick a few branches.
  • A jutsu I haven't touched upon, black panther would be instrumental in not only taking care of bombardments, but it can also be used to take care of Yamato himself. Look at the AoE of this attack [ ], which seems to be omnidirectional killing dozens of Zetsu in one swoop. This is perfect in dealing with clones as while they're focused on restraining Darui, they're subsequently killed as a result releasing the restraint. This is also ideal as it only uses one hand seal, making it easily accessible. This can be used while Darui is motion or otherwise.
  • And of course, Laser circus. The dozens of guided beams allow Darui to dice through anything he throws and with any direction.

Judges I came to the conclusion that while my opponent is bringing the highlights of Darui such as his speed and reactions his isnt taking too much consideration into Mukoton manipulation, plainly obviously when he said it's too linear....

Nope. I said the majority of his arsenal is. In my opening paragraph, I also gave a counter if Yamato chooses to use Mokuton in a more omnidirectional manner.

Anyways the way for Yamato to win this match is restraint and chakra suppression as I said above. My opponent doesnt understand how mukoton can be used. It seems as though he thinks the mukoton will simply come straight to darui allowing him to cut them via raiton.

Yamato breaking out of mukoton restraint? Not happening when it was

I understand Mokuton can be used omnidirectionally and I admitted to it in my opening paragraph. The unfortunate downfall to your premise is that Darui's techniques can be used while he's in motion as shown here[ ]-[ ] following up with laser circus. Black panther requiring only a single handseal can also be distributed while in motion. Darui can counter attack and subsequently kill Yamato as a result of this due to Ranton's guided properties followed up by a Black panther. Same goes for any clones.

If Black panther is also used correctly, it could effectively kill Yamato in one swoop. Based on it's appearance it seems to be a linear panther just leaping forward, but it has quite a significant AoE which Yamato himself doesn't know about. If he's focused on Darui and Darui released said jutsu, he would get electrocuted and die. Based on Darui's speed and awareness, he is capable of avoiding all of Mokuton's advances while dicing through them and advancing towards Yamato himself. Clones honestly get one shotted by black panther.

Frankly, Yamato's Mokuton is simply too slow. Kakuzu, who by that particular point was less mobile due to releasing his earth grudge fear was avoiding it with no problems. , while it should be lower with EGF's release being based around long range as said by Kakuzu [ ]. Someone like Darui's who speed and evasiveness feats (which I've highlighted numerous times now) should have no problems avoiding them. From simultaneously attacking with V1 Ay (he's realistically a little slower than V1 Ay), from dodging attacks from a transformed Kinkaku and so forth. Omnidirectional attacks mean nothing when Darui has not only the speed to avoid them, but the techniques to plow through them. While Yamato himself cannot counterattack in the same manner as Darui. Constant motion and speed won't give Yamato the privilege to just grab him from underneath.

My scenario is realistic, as Darui has shown the stamina to maintain such a constant assault. After using the sage's tools and was self-admittedly exhausted[ ], he continued to battle Kinkaku at most likely less than half chakra. Not to mention the Zetsu he fought, and joining Naruto etc.. to fight the Juubi and co.

Noted.

Attack prevention works by assimilating the users body into the earth. Basically, his body is still existent under the surface meaning Darui still has means to reach Yamato through Ranton's piercing properties [1]. If Darui physically sees Yamato sending his body underground or to a tree in the surroundings, he can still aim his Ranton there and due to it's extreme AoE consisting of dozens of beams [2] attacking the target at once, one or the other is bound to hit Yamato who's going to be within the vicinity; my proposition is similar to how Sakura revealed Kakashi's location by destroying the surrounding area [3]

Can he reach yamato? Yes?

Will He? Most likely not because he we will have no idea where he is traveling under the surface. Fact

If Darui physically see's Yamato forming into the ground yes I will not deny he can send raiton but it seems clear as day your inferring that Darui will be inches away from yamato to execute this counter. Yamato would obviously keep his distance knowing he has long range raiton.

There's still the matter of wood clones also using attack prevention technique so for all darui knows he thinks his attacking the real yamato be he is not.

Distance

Look at the gap between Darui and sasuke at the kage summit

Deidara notes theirs about 5 meter limit that sasuke's chidori can travel to.

The gap between darui and sasuke at kage summit was maybe a little bit over 5 meters at best

Darui performed laser circus against sasuke[ ][ ]

Acknowledging the not so large distance between sasuke still managed to bring up sussano in time against laser circus[ ]

speed of attack prevention technique

one page, orochimaru is gone

one page, madara comes up

If the gap between darui and yamato is close? I can't deny he can get a laser circus to hit him possibly, but if the gap is considerably wider I can see yamato escaping with attack preventing technique.

How fast does it take for Yamato to send his body underground or to assimilate it with the neighbouring environment? For a jutsu that's already stated to be fast [4], by the time Yamato merges Darui's Ranton will be within range to know exactly where his body lies and it's approximate perimeter; so as I have aforementioned above, one or the other is bound to hit Yamato due to it's extreme range.

I already addressed the speed issue above.

It doesn't matter if it has a extreme range. your assuming that when yamato merges with the environment he can still get caught in the range.. Can he? yes, can he not? Yes.

the jutsu itself has different purposes... Yamato used it as a spying method? Okay and?

Naruto used his shadow clones as a method to help learn his chakra infinity. different purposes doesnt take away the initial objective of the jutsu.

Orochimaru was shown using it sneaking up on anko? You do know that is also a intended purpose of the jutsu right? To also counter attack the opponent while also attempting to sneak up on them.

Why havent we seen the jutsu being used to dodge a attack? I think that isn't fair to ask? Their are many instances in this manga where a character could of used a certain jutsu but as always it was up to kishi to whether or not allow it.

Why havent we seen characters use a substitution jutsu more often? It practically got ruled out of the manga

Eh, that's clearly hyperbole. Enhanced instincts? He literally saw Sakura run towards Sasuke and they were only like 10m [11] away from each other. Although, he did do well to close that distance during Sasuke's approach. I'll give him that.

Ill take kishi's word over yours buddy.
