From the next chapter's spoiler pics, I noticed that Shin's Mangekyo were a Straight Pattern. Could this mean he can be linked to Sasuke/Madara potential wise somehow?

Here Madara states that him and Sasuke were the only ones who have awakened a sharingan with straight commas.

I don't think Choku Tomoe refers to the shape of the pattern. Madara's Mangekyo wasn't a straight pattern. His Eternal Mangekyo was, but that was because of the design of Izuna's Mangekyo.

Shisui had a straight pattern as well.

Indra's pattern wasn't straight.

Straight tomoe. It supposed to give it's user better fluidity in their movements.
