You mean from the billboard awards? That's fodder award, Soulja Boy won, that Call me maybe chick, etc.

It's determined simply by radio/streaming spins. And mainstream radio spins are bought by labels and artists. Doesn't determine any kind of quality in a artist at all other than marketability.

None of the ones you mentioned are great, never mind top, or even good for that matter.
You're funny.
OT: Drake over J Cole. Nicki Minaj stepped up a bit more on the rap aspect instead of going more pop but she's not even close to Drake/J Cole.
Iggy is ass.
Billboards don't know nothing anyways.

It's an insult that Iggy is allowed to categorize her music as Hip-Hop.

And the majority of Hip-Hop artist & listeners agree.

Nicki >>>>>>>>>>>> Iggy

J Cole>>>>>>>>>>> Iggy

Big Sean >>>>>> Iggy

Drake >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Iggy

Kendrick >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Iggy

Kendrick is the best one between the ones mentioned in the OP, but he's nothing more than average. He gets a lot of hype in the mainstream but in regards to his abilities and subject matter, there's nothing amazing to the listened ear. But I suppose many people are happy to settle with average and aren't willing to learn to enrich their taste, hence why so many golden rappers stay out of the limelight.

Its not all bad though, at least they can't get eaten up by mainstream influence like Eminem was with Recovery.

He has indeed become influenced by mainstream but I'm sure not even half of the people get his lyrics and subtle metaphors. He may not be everyone's cup of tea but he's above average without a doubt.

Almost 2 years old, but still gold:

That's hilarious, can you fully grasp everything he say's in his lyrics? The references, the wordplay, the metaphors, the concept any of that? Can you even spot all the rhetoric devices he uses in his music? Wait hol up do you even know what rhetoric devices are? If you do can you list more than 30? (without google but clearly you will use it)

Everybody wants an underground artist to blow up but when they do and get more fans you start to say "oh he's too mainstream now because everyone knows him" "he sucks since he's mainstream" which is the single most dumbest thing I have ever heard. Em has fallen off to a certain extent, his drive to the game has gone down. Kendrick is still getting better.

I love all genres but it's crazy how much trash Hip-Hop/Rap can get to those that don't know anything about it.

I don't even want to hear the same cliche excuse "old school school was 10x better" letting your nostalgia take over.

Lupe, Logic, Em, J Cole, Kendrick, Mick Jenkins, Kanye, Chance the rapper, milo, Flatbush Zombies, Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler, The underachiever, Joey badass, Jarren benton, busdriver, aesop rock, atmosphere, captain murphy, Danny brown, death grips, young fathers, scallops hotel, jonwayne, LSD, abe, Tupac, Nas, Wu-Tang, Snoop and MF.Doom, ect
Do you even know half of these people? I can keep on going for days.
