I mean when you look at their interactions, they're respectful towards each other, they seem to get along and understand each other and generally they showed a good couple dinamic.
So do you think they were friends?

The akutsuki were all good friends. Despite their different agendas, they showed respectful and warm camaraderie

hard to say kisame did kill himself to keep the akutsuki knowledge from being probed

They were friends in a sadistic akatsuki villiany type of way

I think they just had mad respect for each other's strength and ideals. I guess you could say they were friends..Kisame did think of Itachi in his final moments.

They were friends and had a great deal of respect for each other.

Kisame always cautioned Itachi about overusing MS - not something you'd do if you didn't care. Plus, when Itachi was Edo'd, he looked saddened when realising that Kisame was dead. And Itachi was Kisame's final thoughts.

Theres other examples too.

They definitely respected each other. I don't know if they were truly trustworthy of one another but I think it was the closest thing to a friendship without defining it as a friendship.

Itachi was nice to him but I don't think he really gave a crap about him. Kisame probably saw itachi more as a friend as vice versa. All the akatsuku pairs I think we're somewhat friends with maybe the exception of Hidan and kakuzu but even their interactions had some closeness.

They were friends or something similar to it, whatever two shinobi who regularly deceived and took dirty jobs for the sake of their villages could really muster.

@Beans: You're out of the Kool Kisame Klub. . .
