hihi. There's something that's been bothering me , i remember reading a thread a few days ago where some user on here said the Viz hires freelance translators & that being the official translation means nothing. Basically he's saying mangapanda or *********** is as good as the viz. Meaning two fanmade translation is as good as a professional comany's translation... Is he right? :eww:

No translation is ever 100% authentic. The meaning of words are lost once you try and convey thm in another language. But I agree viz tends to be better quality.

I'll take hired professionals who do this as their job over fans on a website any day.

Viz is the least accurate from what I see. All other translation agree with one another while viz tends to say something bizzare always

Viz isn't accurate, they reword things however they like. And they sensor out cursing, so of course it isn't 100% accurate.

You want authenticity, find someone who can actually translate japanese word for word. Viz translates Hiraishin as Flying Raijin - WHAT THE HELL IS A RAIJIN?! They never say the literal meaning, which is flying Thunder God.

I read on Naruto forums the real translation of what Tobirama said to Minato when they arrived in the battlefield. He said "Fourth you bastard, your shunshin usage is better than mine. (Someone who can actually read japanese, translated it like this).

In viz it says "fourth, you're better at teleporting than I am.

Japanese isn't exactly your language to be able to be translated word for word. The words could all be conveyed at a different way and yet they still give out the same general idea.

This. If Naruto was made in America I doubt we would have as many complaints though.

It's funny because Raijin means Thunder God, but do you. Flying Raijin=Flying Thunder God, and the former sounds far cooler.

Because...

a) Some of the Viz staff has admitted to have a bias towards certain characters in the past.

b) They have made errors here and there before.

c) At times, dialogue can be left up to the reader's interpretation. So, there cannot be a 100% translation in some cases.

d) Viz does not always give a literal translation. They try to use words that flow better, but this at times makes things more awkward. An example of this is when Naruto saw Zetsu for the first time and said "Who's the plant dude?" Viz translated this as "Hey! Who's Aloe Vera?" lol.

Point is, yes it is considered "official". But will it ever be 100% correct? No. No translation will ever be. Because every single reader (including the translators keeping up with the series) has a bias on how Japanese should be translated to English. But should Viz be the usual standard translation fans can agree on- yes. It's the job of these folks, might as well be viewed as the best translation at this point. It's good for knowing what generally went on in a fight or the story line.

Though, if something is controversial pertaining to one of your favourite characters- you will want to look at other sources than Viz. Just to check. Viz has made some mistakes (in terms of casual dialogue) with Tobirama/Danzo/Minato/Itachi/Kushina and a few others before.

Many times I actually wonder whether these people speak Japanese or not, I seriously doubt it's the best. They should be glad if they are not least. They speak the loudest, that's all I would give it to them

Who gives a shit? As long as you get the general gist of what is being said and can follow along and enjoy the story I don't think it matters if the translation is 100% accurate.

And yes Viz is the official translation, deal with it.

I know who you're talking about lol. Viz may not be perfect but it's the closest we can get to the original Japanese dialogue.

Those are bad examples. Raijin means Thunder God and Shunshin is teleporting ninjutsu, it just doesn't necessarily indicate instantaneous movement like FTG. Viz isn't wrong there at all.
