how would he know itachis intentions for sasuke? he was in izanami when itachi started talking to sasuke. he also said he wanted to go back to the orphanage. he also never wore the akatsuki robe even while technically and affiliate of akatsuki.

Uhh I think Kabuto knew a thing or two about what Itachi wanted for Sasuke after going back to save his life... He could of just been like "Great! I belong at the orphanage now, cya!". So what if he said he wanted to go back? Maybe the great big mothe****in snake sticking out of his ass made him think again. Orochimaru said he didn't want revenge anymore so is everything sunshine and roses with him now? No, the characters know that he's still doing bad shit. So what if he wasn't wearing a cloak, maybe he could of after he joined Obito but decided not to. The cloak is meaningless, it just shows affiliation. Obito didn't bother wearing it during the war did he?

It's not that there isn't evidence, it's just that you refuse to believe there is.

Exactly. There's no way he would become a villain again when Izanami made a complete 180 degrees turn on his character. It would be terrible development for his character if he turns out to be the masked man. The fact that Kabuto resuscitated Sasuke

Not at all, how do you know that what Sasuke is doing atm is what Itachi would approve of? Izanami doesn't turn you into the perfect human being, it just makes you realise the error of your ways. At most, what Kabuto did by resurrecting Sasuke was carrying Itachi's will and love for his brother, it has absolutely nothing to do with grudges. Itachi's last moments were spent trying to get his brother back on the right path, if Sasuke abandoned that path then it could potentially mean that Itachi's death was in vane because his dying wish wasn't fulfilled... And the only person that could possibly fulfil and carry that final wish now is Kabuto. Pretty good plot development if you ask me.

You do realise that Sasuke has finally returned to his former self, right? You’re basing your arguments on “if Sasuke walks on the wrong path again”, when it is clear as day that he hasn’t, and most likely, never will.

All Itachi hoped for was for Sasuke to become an excellent shinobi - one that would always protect Konoha, just like how he gave his life away for the village. However, Itachi felt that he couldn’t be the sincere brother that he wanted to be for Sasuke. Thus, he entrusted this job to Naruto, who he saw as the brother he wish he had been for Sasuke. It is evident from chapter 698 onwards that Naruto has fulfilled Itachi’s wish, as Sasuke is no longer going to destroy the world (or more precisely, the “past”), and is willing to cooperate with everyone to make the world a better place. He is now walking on the path that his brother had dreamed of, which is something Kabuto should be proud of.

Even if Sasuke does divert from this path in the future (which is very unlikely to happen), it doesn’t make any sense for Kabuto to despise Sasuke when Sasuke hasn’t changed yet, unless you think Kabuto is a prophet or something. Lol

Plus, Kabuto has deeply regretted his own actions [

]. He’s not just doing this for Itachi’s sake; he’s doing it for his own sake too as he wants to make amends for the crimes that he has committed. It’d be ridiculous if Kabuto would want to start shit again. He is no longer the man he was a hundred chapters ago; he’s far from it.

My bet is on remnants of Akatsuki.

Now, what is Akatsuki?

A terrorist organization? yup.

A government that runs Amakagure? yup.

So the question is, what happened to Amakagure after the death of Konan?

Who took over?
Was there anyone left from the original Akatsuki?

Who could make such a grievous error as to assume Sasuke murdered Itachi?
Perhaps a second tier Akatsuki member who wasn't in the know?
(The rumor of Sasuke killing Itachi was running rampant before the war...)

Who would benefit from the political vacuum left by the death of Nagato and Konan?
Who would benefit from using the Uchiha and Akatsuki name?
Who could find the wall of sharingan eyes in Obito's hideout?

Sure Kabato could possibly do all of that, but I feel like the unresolved political problems in Amakagure that were presented in Naruto have yet to be resolved and that Kabuto isn't quite the right character to channel the resolution to those problems.

Naruto promised to bring Amakagure into the light, is this the tale of keeping that promise?

Whether it is Orochimaru, Kabuto or mystery villain it will all be pretty darn interesting!

I have a feeling that Naruto and Sasuke will purge both the false Akatsuki and Uchiha Clan.

Naruto will be angered at the sullying of the honor of Nagato and Obito.

Sasuke will be angered by someone changing his family name into a cult.

In both cases this looks like it might turn out to be a case of preventing revisionist history for self centered gain.

It would be bad writing if it turns out the akatsuki leader is none other than Kabuto imo, it isn't good either for his character to regress after his redemption. But well, this possibility isn't to be ruled out simply because of that, we've seen 'twists' far worse than that.

Either way let's wait and see.
