Naruto would kill if it is an unknown threat or a person with no background story. But really, one of the reason why people acknowledge naruto or like his dumb ass is because he have the strength to kill but decided to endure your hatred and not kill you. His battle with Obitio, Naruto seem like he have no problem killing Obitio until he saw his visions and shit.

I think the moment Naruto kill another shinobi intentionally will be the moment people will stop seeing him as a white knight or the hero they all see him as.

If the enemy can keep his mouth shut throughout the fight yes, or better yet if the enemy doesn't have a tragic past.
Right. So follow Oprah Winfrey's advice. Tell your whole life story to the person who is about to kill you. Then that person will change his mind. XD

Naruto has always been willing to kill his enemies if that's what it took, but he exhausts all measures before going to that extreme, and that's why he's able to redeem people. Mercy is not a weakness.

Because only a fool would go that far for a person that is not blood related. I know I wouldn't go that far for my friend.
This explains as to why Naruto pushed so hard to save Sasuke.
Naruto has gone through hardships as well as Sasuke and dealt with solitude and hatred, he understands how to conquer it

indeed not, but Mercy can create hatred or make that person you showed mercy to feeling powerless. Hatred or feeling powerless creates fear. Fear can make things worse for the future. This is why Goku is on that F that mercy shit after Freiza, If you don't stand down the first time you gonna meet king yemma.

I'm sorry. It just might be me. The crap that Naruto went through cannot be compare to Sasuke at all. Naruto conquering his dark side at the waterfall was weak. You growing up with no parents, having the village hate you, and having your master killed is not comparable to having your clan, including your mother and father slaughtered by your dear brother. I'm sorry. I just can't see how Naruto could possibly understand how Sasuke felt. I'm sorry. This is the number one reason why I can't like Naruto's character development. Naruto should've suffer A LOT MORE before fighting sasuke again. Naruto never really know what it is like to be powerless. He always have 9 tailed power to fall back on or somebody to lift him up when shit seem hopeless. He need to be thrown to the deepest part of the hell hole, then back to the light. If he had done that, he would've been one of best character anime/manga history.

A person presented with mercy shouldn't feel powerless. The true feeling of mercy is doing good to others and giving a second thought of what should and could be than what shouldn't be, if a person views mercy as a feeling of being powerless then they haven't acknowledged whatever problems they faced

I agree but it also a slap in the face saying that you're weak. It is an embarrassment to some people. Some people even commit suicide because of it.

Naruto didn't have control of his power then or the Jin so its safe to assume that he didn't have control of actions neither.
While this is true, his resolve is unwavered. He would have killed oro given the chance and only entered the 4tails as a result of the pure hatred he felt torwards oro.

He straight up kill kakuzu. and while he didn't do the dirty work, he wasn't going to stop them from killing obito.

It's moreso just plot and naruto's character. He doesn't easily give up on anyone. But he would definitely kill someone to protect the hidden leaf if he could tell there was no other way. Like Kakuzu.
