Expertise analysis, in-depth symbolism, logically derived observations, in all, this thread is nothing short of true art sprinkled with poetic lyricism. If I had to rate between a 1-10, I would give this an 11. I remember you said you had this idea a while ago, and I must say you did not fail to deliver Magatsu Might as well replace the data-book Character entries with your analysis, because this is one a kind literary insight. Despite being focused on the earlier parts of Sasuke, I really enjoyed reading this. Also here are some more things to support your observations:

The kylin is said to be an animal of longevity that could live for 2,000 years. It is also believed that the beast could spit fire and roar like thunder. The Kylin is one of the "Four Divine Creatures", the other three being the phoenix, the turtle and the dragon. In ancient times, it was regarded as a celestial animal, a benevolent animal, the mount for god and a symbol of auspiciousness. Of all animals, the kylin was ranked second only to the dragon.

The kylin is a carrier of profound cultural connotations. In ancient Chinese culture, there are lots of legends about the relations between kylin and emperors. It was widely believed that the animal would convey the will of Heaven and therefore dictate the rise and fall of a dynasty. In folk culture, there's a saying of "the kylin bringing a child". Common people regard the animal as a divine creature bringing children to them. It is said that Confucius was brought by a kylin. The animal is also used to describe a brilliantly talented person.

Aside from the obvious fire/thunder elemental similarities and the symbolism for a genius, or rather in terms of the "kylin and emperor", I can see the immediate connection of Sasuke and Naruto. To specify, Naruto asks Sasuke for help to bring the Shinobi World to peace, which Sasuke obviously complies to, and at the same time that whole "Valley of The End" Battles are more fine examples of Sasuke's Judgement that you mentioned, since he felt he must take the necessary course of action for stability. Also I want to mention that you quoted "It is often depicted with what looks like fire all over its body." That reminds me a lot of Sasuke's ability to manipulate his flames around his body. I'd love to hear your input on all this

Overall, I must say that this is one of the finest threads I have seen around, we need more of these threads. Thanks for taking the time to write this

Regarding the connections you found, here are my thoughts:

For any character in this series that has ties to mythology/folklore/history, once you see those connections, you also begin to see an entirely different side of them. Sasuke is no exception. If you interpret Naruto as being the emperor (as he is Hokage), then the VoTE battles, especially the second one, take on a whole new dimension to them. It can be said that he believed his view on the Shinobi world was the "will of Heaven", saying things like

during the fight to emphasize that. And then of course, if you interpret Sasuke as being Kirin itself, then you see the immeadiate connection with Enton (flames around his body) and his fire/lightning arsenal. I'm sure there are even more connections and parralels out there.

That's one of the things I love about the series. Things that seem so insignificant, if looked into further, can actually be exponentially more significant then one would have assumed. It's one of the reasons why Kishimoto is such a great writer, IMO.

It was an outstanding job. I liked the thorough analysis of Kirin and how it nicely falls in line with Sasuke's theme and what his character is supposed to symbolize. I've been thinking about it for some time now, ever since I've read about Kirin's mythical symbolism a while ago. This thread just came in time as it just tied the loose ends perfectly.

We need more of these.

In Buddhist influenced depictions, they will refuse to walk upon grass for fear of harming a single blade, and thus are often depicted walking upon the clouds or the water. As they are divine and peaceful creature, their diets do not include flesh. They take great care when they walk to never tread on a living creature, and appear only in areas ruled by a wise and benevolent leader, which can include a household. They can become fierce if a pure person is threatened by a malicious one, spouting flames from their mouths and exercising other fearsome powers that vary from story to story.

Hebi Sasuke had the tendency to spare civilians and that was the time he used Kirin. Just another aspect of Sasuke's character that matches with that of a Qilin.

Ah, good observation. I completely forgot about that. It's interesting to see just how many aspects of Sasuke's character at the time parallel Kirin so well. I'm sure there's even more that we haven't noticed.
