The story of Goku, ya know from Dragon Ball to the end of the Cell Games. Is a pretty compelling and genuinely good. DB started to suck from the Buu Saga onward. GT is terrible and these new movies are terrible.

From Dragonball to the end of the freeza saga dbz is unparalleled

The rest of it is great but nothing like leading up to the freeza saga

Freeza has stayed in my memory longer than Joker, Magneto, Lex Luthor and Pain combined

Agreed. Buu Sagas was horrible. The new movies seem to be trying to teach Goku a lesson.

Have you seen the recent interviews from Toriyama?

Apparantly he takes issue with the way the anime portrayed him as "righteous". Saying Goku is "pure" but is motivated by his love of fighting and not right and wrong.

I think these new movies are a way to frame Goku in a new light that Toriyama approves of.

Yeah after Gotenks started fighting Super Buu it had become a parody of itself and I felt like it lost its atmosphere

The sequel to The Lion King showed that Simba turned out to be paranoid and old-fashioned and enforces segregation by exiling anyone still loyal to Scar. And he has fights with his daughter about being so obsessed with the past. Same thing, but nobody's complaining that it ruined the original.

Maybe that's because the original was a Hamlet-fanfic with animals.

I heard about that. Yeah, but I've never looked at Goku as righteous because he's not above killing someone.

That's the thing though, Goku never kills anyone in DBZ, except Buu.

Radditz was killed by Piccolo
Nappa was killed by Vegeta
Jeice, Burter and Recoome were all killed by Vegeta
Goku attacked Freeza with intent to kill but the stubborn SOB clung to life by a thread (or Toriyama retconned it to have Freeze be brought back only to die aagin), even though half his torso, an arm and have his skull was blown away.
Goku fought #19 and Cell but didn't kill them.

Kid Goku though, he dished out death left and right. It was only after training with Kami did Goku go soft.

The Buu Saga's had there moments: Majin Vegeta, Goku v Vegeta Rd 2, SSJ3 transformation, Ultimate Gohan, and Goku and Vegeta's bromance. However as for overall quality, it definitely felt inferior to previous saga's. With the android/cell saga's as my favorites.

Wot d fudge r u guys talking about ?
Buu saga was gr8

1) The long awaited fight :- Majin Vegeta vs Goku
2) Majin Buu -> Turning soft -> Showing feelings -> Then showing what hurt can bring out
3) The fusion saga
4) SSJ3 damn
5) The final Tag team b/w Goku and Vegeta was legendary. No team compares
6) Vegeta finally acknowledging his love, Goku's superiority :- Best development

Sure Buu was not a genius but he was damn good. He was a more versatile fighter than anyone. Regeneration , flexibility, magic, power, technique, absorption you name it, he has it. Plus the bugger just won't die. It was fun watching him . All his versions had something unique

Vegito was amazing too.

SSJ3 was a waste of effort considering SSJ2 fusion beat Super Buu. Cell games were okay but not as good as the Frieza saga.

I tend to feel the series was elaborated upon after its original success. Like the Matrix movie (where the first was the best) and countless others. Its all about that money.

If you don't watch the new movies and the new series they won't hurt you if you do, you are on your own pal.

He killed that thing that was eating his energy in the Buu Sagas. To be fair, in DBZ Goku was either dead or hurt until the end of the saga.

Goku dead during Saiyan Saga.
Goku was left on Earth during the Namek Sagas.
Goku was in recovery during the Frieza Sagas.
Goku had a heart virus during the Android Sagas.
Goku was dead during Majin Buu Sagas.

Nah.. Goku didn't really kill anyone in DBZ.

Dragon Ball up to Frieza Saga is pure gold, after that the series is average at best.
