I have read a few theories and I think there is a possibility of this one coming true,

So, I say Luffy will set his entire body on Fire raise the body temperature to an extreme (An advanced form of his Hawk attacks) And this would in turn trigger a process called Vulcanisation.

Once it happens Luff's entire body will be turned into the toughest form of rubber, and internal to the body Gear 2 will still be working, so his speed will not be decreased, But the Toughness of the Vulcanised body of luffy coated with his armament Haki will make his punches 10x stronger than current.

The drawback of this process would be that luffy would loose his ability to stretch.

Yeah, now you can all Laugh and convey dismay about the number of gear 4 theories lol

As I said, Luffy won't be able to stretch as much while this gear is active, his muscles would be tough but not stretchable like before.

Ad for after it is de-activated, I am not so sure.

i think if he does volcanize himself because hes rubber he may be able to loosen up like sore muscles soft rubber
