The setting sun heralds the parting of the day,
The coming night envelops all that I can see,
Beyond the quiet slopes of the Outer Hebrides,
A kingdom of sorrow is left solely unto me.
Ungainly does the spark of cruel memory magnify,
The tales of old glories that had long since passed,
Of chalices held high in great merriment and pride,
Heralding not the coming doom that shall pass by.
And with tempestuous fury did the pestilence come,
Heaven once mute with its silent dignity perturbed,
One by one both man and tower fell to the ground,
Leaving barely myself alive when its cruelty was done.
And so forever do I now walk these empty shattered halls,
Never to see the smiles that lit its ivory corridors before,
And at my side forever does he walk with me to and fro,
He, that man, my sole companion, the demon in the wall.
