I don't get it why you pick some joes and moes to go there, instead of colonizing a planet humans have never been why not send some actual knowledable scientist to make their search and come back? Is something prevents a space ship to be able to come back from there?

Earth is more than enough if people can manage themselves. The most "advanced" specie is somehow the least adequate one to have enough sources for its existence. One day we will extinct like every other specie and it will only be natural.
