So is Boruto already destined to become a fodder child of an otherwise great hero?

Gohan had so much hype in DBZ but after Cell, he's seemingly been reduced to being a punching bag. Dabura, Buu 2x, Hirudegarn, General Metallo, Omega Sheron, Bills and now Gold Frieza have all fodderized Gohan.

Mantaro Kinniku/Kid Muscle from the Kinnikuma series. Mantaro had a lot of hype due to the legacy of his name (in universe and out) but the series never took off like it's predecessor. Even now manga remains unfinished and the anime was cancelled 2x before an abridged ending was cobbled together.

In the Narutoverse you had Asuma, who disagreed with his pops Hiruzen, and never attained nearly the level of skill or jutsu. This without Hiruzen having any KKG, Bijuu or Sage modes. Really Asuma...really?

So yeah, Boruto the odds don't look good for you mate.
So you read Kinnikuman too? :)

Tell me: is it only me who thinks that there much more similarity between Suguru and Naruto than Goku and Naruto?

Also, about Gohan, Toriyama told that he wanted to make Gohan the next main protagonist, but because of popularity polls he had bringing Goku back and fodderise Gohan.

Luke was most likely at ROTS Anakin's level, and certainly surpassed him between then and Episode 7. With Gohan, the fact that he nearly single handedly killed Super Buu would say he was the strongest character, training or not, Gohan was the strongest (Super Buu was more powerful than Kid Buu). Also, Korra already has energy bending and, unlike Aang, actually learned how to fight in the Spirit World, hell, she learned how to fight using spirit energy in the human world, pretty sure she was stronger than Aang.
Korra doesn't have energy bending. She uses a water bending technique to manipulate spirit energy, which she learned from her uncle, Unalaqq. As for fighting in the Spirit World, anyone can do that. It's just that in Aang's era, he never physically went to the Spirit World. It was always him astral projecting to it. Korra physically went there and as such had her body to do bending with. The same way Wan, Unalaqq and the twins were able to.

Yeah I think Naruto and Suguru both have the same goofy personas and righteous attitude when fighting evil. Goku fights for justice but it seems more he wants to get his saiyan kicks out of battling strong people.

What you say about Gohan is true. Also Toriyama said that as he was writing the Buu Saga, he just didn't feel Gohan occupied the place of a hero as well as Goku did. Reading the Buu Saga from start to finish, with Gohan not training for 7 years, becoming a costume super hero, going to HS and what not. It seemed like Toriyama was just grasping at straws for what to do with him.

I mean as in when she used astral projection to fight Unalaq at the end of the series and turned gigantic, which is far more than Aang ever did with energy bending. Or the fact that she knows his only energy bending technique anyway. Or the fact that she energy bended the blast for the spirit cannon and created a new portal, yeah, I'd say she's stronger.

Im pondering on that little potential detail that doujutsus are put to rest...
I mean the Byakugan isnt revealed to be given to Boruto of Hima chan... I just cling on to the potential that Boruto has Jyuuken fighting style taijutsu... Hyuuga afterall has two kekkei genkais right?
About the Sharingan, Im sure Sarada has Sasuke's dna or something that is something that is in store for her character.

Hell we dont need to talk about the other two eyes gahhhh.

I forgot Aang gave Korra energy bending at the end of season one. So she could reset the status quo/give people their bending back.

Again, I say it's debatable Korra and Aang. We never see Aang fight in his prime. Only his 13 year old body.

And then was forgotten about half way through the Buu saga.

Did Goten even win a fight, ever?
Did he ever not look badass?

Kid was like 9 fighting destroyers of worlds with Trunks.

There is a difference between "Fodder" and "Not basically a Demigod"

Boruto will definately be nowhere near naruto, but you need to realise that thats just because the power scaling is so massive.

Not just power scaling but in overall execution and legacy.

Look at Goku's sons. Gohan has slid down more and more since his triumphant defeat of Cell. Gohan has been punked more times than I can count.

Goten was crafted to be the next Goku but by the end of the Buu arc, his potential was never realized. Even at the end of Z, he was so far below Goku and even complained that his father was making him train. GT isn't canon but Goten was left of most of the story. Movies don't help hype him either.

Asuma is a pale reflection on his father Hiruzen. Asuma, like Kakashi, had no goals and was essentially going through life as it came. He never wanted anything and ended up dying in a miserable way against an opponent he had the potential to beat.

With Mantaro/Kid Muscle and his father Suguru/Kinnikuman/King Muscle, it's more of his show and manga sucked and was essentially a rehash of the original. Mantaro was made into a clone of his dad but was set up to fight unremarkable opponents and had a supporting cast of weak (physically, even though they were legacy fighters too) characters behind him. Mantaro looks good by comparison but his series never finished and has remained on hiatus since 2006. It started in 2000.

Boruto I can see falling into the Asuma and Mantaro category. Nothing like his dad, doesn't aspire to be anything and his surrounded by a cast of characters who are clones of their parents (Ino-Shika-ChoCho, Lee Jr). He'll look good compared to them, but there's no impact he'll leave. Salada and Himawari have more potential to be different and break the molds.
