I never thought it would have a Chakra upkeep, because as you said it's a biological transformation. Same as there's no reason to think Orochimaru's True Form would require a Chakra upkeep. It's him. I have nothing to prove Summoning Jutsu is involved, but I personally think it is as that's the only way I can explain the severed heads proofing away like Kuchiyoses.

I'm skeptical in how that'd turn out.

Except the true form is him, this is a literal transformation. They aren't the same, one is more natural for orochimaru than the other. They disappeared because they were made entirely of chakra, and without chakra to maintain them, they vanish. Like most other ninjutsu.

Here, it's like saying Kakuzu using his threads to enter the final form he revealed against Naruto is free from chakra manipulation. It's natural for him to have these threads, these hearts. But the action of moving them like that requires chakra to keep the form up.

No speed feats > No answer for Gaara in flight(outside of Kusanagi which is blocked) > Hydra dies a painful death.

Hydra has all of 3 things going for it

> Big
> Can crush stuff with it's head(bite as well, but whichever)
> Oro using kusanagi

So long as you have answers for those 3 things, which 99% of the high level shinobi in this manga do, you can beat Hydra.

I'm skeptical in Gaara's ability to crush Hydra...

Gaara did this

That's many times bigger than 8 headed snake

That's many times bigger than Deidara. If he can get sand all the way in the air and do that he for sure can crush the snake.

In a desert. That's like asking what Kisame can do to Hydra in the ocean.

What's the location? You didn't say it in op

I didn't have a desert in mind where Gaara's abilities are improved tenfold. So anywhere else. Though I'm not denying what you say.

He should still be able to crush enough rocks to crush the snake. The snake isn't much bigger than Itachi's susanoo.

Gaara was able to do this, as a kid, in a forest, creating all the sand by himself:

It's only reasonable to expect Gaara can double or triple that in size now.

And no, before you ask, this is not a technique assisted by Shukaku, it's all Gaara's doing:

NINJUTSU; Ryuusa Bakuryuu (Desert Quicksand Cascading Stream*)
User: Gaara
Offensive; Close, Medium, Long ranges; Rank: none

Main text

From the sand he is himself carrying, he grinds the rocks and minerals from underground into an homogenous sea of sand and manipulates it like a tsunami that engulfs absolutely all things in his line of sight!! This jutsu is for no one except Gaara, who lives up to his "Of the Desert*" namesake. This raging sea deals a lot of damage by itself, but one can further take advantage of the sand for a second and a third consecutive assault! That sublime succession of sand attacks has this jutsu as its starting point!!

I dunno why you're doubting the sand's ability to crush the snakes. It's not like they've shown any super special durability.

I think his concern is the size of the snake. I don't think we've seen Gaara crush something as big as the 8 headed serpent. But those snakes aren't even that big.

The only issue the size causes is the amount of sand needed, which as shown Gaara can have practically as much sand as he wants on any battlefield, and plenty to crush those heads.
