Well, we don't have a tradition of prom in our country so i wouldn't know much ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

But certainly, if you want to be there and you're just finding an excuse not to go cuz of some weird reasons(insecurities and all :/) Then it won't help, cuz deep don't you'll regret it and get the self guilt of not asking out a girl or whatever your reasons might be.
Personally i'd go to any such place or event where i can have the company of my peers, i mean, i can't really afford to miss a shit load of fun and memories.

It's not ¨just prom¨ to some people. For many people, it's gonna be one of the last times they hang out with and have a bash with close friends. Depending on how much your friends mean to you and your plans after high school, prom can be pretty important to some people because of their friends.
