data doesn't completely disappear when you delete stuff
you can still get the "deleted" data back

i've tried a few data recovery programs and they found pictures i had on the SD card a few years back
but what im really trying to get are my videos

I had the same problem before with some mp4 files I was trying to recover. I guess you could try some other free programs, but the results may very well be the same. If the lost data is that important to you, I'm sure there are businesses or services out there that specialize in such things. Depends on if you want to spend the money on it.
