Judging from this Chapter luffy needs strength to beat Doffy

Luffy needs a way to merge Gear 2 speed and Gear 3 power, Doffy himself said and showed us that while G2 attacks hit, he has little trouble blocking them and G3 techniques are easily evaded.

My guess is that he will increase his muscle density (kind of like Nightmare luffy) so he can be super fast and strong at the same time.

But its a Gear, it should be its own thing with Haki as a supplement. I'm not sure about every body else but I hope it doesn't involve Haki. CoC will have its moment against Shanks or Kaido more than likely.

Yeah it is that. I'm just saying it'll have haki applied to it most likely. Like I don't think it'll be just base 4th gear, if you get what I'm saying.

Oh I see, well what I hope gear 4 isn't is g2 +g3(gear stacking), that would be so lazy and lame imo. It would be exactly the same or similar to what Luffy used on Moriah back in Thriller bark. I want it to be something completely unrelated to g2 and 3 and something that trumps both those in speed and power. Hopefully what it really is won't disappoint.

I don't think we have to worry about it. It's so obvious it'll be more strength oriented, seeing how Doffy is saying Luffy's punches are weak.

Everyone is really focused in strength, perhaps he gains an believable amount of speed, precession and piercing power? I really can't predict what might happen, I just hope it's something entirely knew, and not the stacking of gears like people are also mentioning :[

I like that idea on piercing, that way the gears can be different. then he can use them all at once

Doffy acknowledges that Luffy is fast but states that his punches aren't that strong at all. Implying/foreshadowing that Luffy's next powerup should be strength oriented.

Yeah I noticed that but I suppose the inner me has a slight hope that the obvious evidence isn't used for the end result

Either way, speed or strength, speed & strength I know I'll like the fourth gear. I haven't been this excited in a really long time, just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

Similar to how Gai releases morning peacock when his gates are open. Luffy is generating so much speed that when he releases the punch, he causes friction with the air itself enough to ignite a flame.

True but he was probably referring to g2 not being strong enough and g3 not being fast enough. Regardless, Luffy does need something much more powerful than g3 because its a new gear, it shouldn't be just as strong as the last one. Watch it be something related to flames even though that would just be hells memories 2.0. A piercing power like Moofy said would be very welcomed, not sure how it would work though considering its been foreshadowed he needs something strong and not sharp. Makes me wonder if Luffy developed both a g4 and 5.
