What do you think is the best anime to get someone into anime? I would say Death Note or Kids on the Slope.

Eh, disagreed. It takes like 50 episodes for the anime to get going. And it's way too long. Someone just starting an anime won't want to commit to something like that.

I suppose it depends on the person you're introducing anime to. I would try to pick something that caters to the person's interest. That being said, I think Death Note and FMA are good ones.

Death Note? The person won't really realize how unique/good it is unless he/she tries the taste of the typical shonen mangas first.(IMO)

OT:rurouni kenshin definitely

But Death Note is a seinen, not a shounen. It's not about the power of friendship or anything like that, so I don't see why they would have to have a background in shounen manga. lol

Baccano!'s a good one.

I know that it ain't shonen, but I thought that it's good to realize how crappy are most of the shonen mangas, before starting with such masterpieces cause after all they're sadly the most popular ,Basically it's like a little warring to stay away from shonen Lol

Based on its content, it's a seinen. Based on what magazine published it, then yes, it's a shounen.

Content ? Seinen is a lot more daring... have you seen Gantz,Monster or Berserk ?
Well, a shounen title doesn't necessarily have to be of the fighting genre, although most of them are. You can have various types of shounen: sports (Prince of Tennis, Eyeshield 21), game-based (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Hikaru no Go) and mystery and suspense (Death Note, Detective Conan/Case Closed)

There's no 'premise' for Shounen, because it isn't a genre. It's simply a categorization of series targeted at middle school aged boys. Death Note is a shounen series because it was made to target middle school aged boys. That's the size of it.

It's neither imo,It's true that death note was serialized by shounen at the beginning but as the story progressed the whole plot started to get more deep and dark which is why a lot of the Japanese readers didn't consider it shounen. But if you want to be so technical then yeah go ahead .....

And I never actually seen any statement or anything that hints that death note was made to target "middle school aged boys" ............

Lol, that's a good point. It's hard when you show someone the best that anime has to offer, and then in turn expect them to be impressed by a typical Shounen.
