Is this a smart move ?

So I know King of the Hill contest is supposed to raise money for the betterment of Base. But can this be a marketing gimmick :-

1) New Members would tend to use Premium more and are likely to get addicted to it. There is some leevay on Premium Chats and the other advantages with your SIG and ava + option to close your thread. Even people who have been gifted may eventually become subscribers
2) Due to this contest, there is a surge of new members in the premium section, I.e. more threads would be there on Premium Section which may even have been on General Discussion or other sections. This would create a sense in the person that he may be left out if he does not re subscribe to the Premium account. This would lead to members subscribing again and again.

Though I am a cynic, what do you all think ?

If it will and if majority of discussions shift to Premium, it would be counted in a successful marketing strategy

Plus the whole motive of the contest is to get more members in premium section and obviously, get some more of cash. So whats the big deal, and im telling you, the hype for this contest will only last for a few months.

Marketing is not a scam. There is nothing unethical about it. I don't think you got what I am trying to ask

I guess you don't understand how it works, people bought premium membership either for the perks or for the premium chat... I've been a premium user since feb 2014 and the premium membership members only visit ''Premium chat'' and use the perks.. Other discussions are done either in NDS or GD, even in the chatterbox so i dunno what you're talking about when it comes ''all major discussions would shift there'', that's false.

That not gonna happen,hardly 20-30% of the premium members actually visit the premium section or post there, so it would be the same as ever.

None of the discussions will go into the Premium section. That section is used solely for the premium chat. I've been premium long enough to know. This contest will only benefit NB. It's not a marketing "gimmick". No one is forcing you to buy premium. I don't see how anything that makes NB better is a bad thing.

And use the right section next time for such questions ~moved.

There is a few threads in the premium section regarding the contest. There was a discussion and the premium members themselves gets to shape the contest as they see fit as long as the ideas are reasonable. And as Flakez said you are not forced to participate. The whole idea was to give back to the people that already have been gifting premium as they were gifting a whole lot, I felt that they should get the chance to get something special in return. Either way the first contest was successful in all aspects, near 20 people participated all of them gets a type of prize. The section got more active. If you have any suggestions regarding the contest or any concerns you can join the discussion in the premium section or if anyone else here wonders about it you can contact me over PM and I will answer all your questions regarding it.

With that said, your first sentence is not true and was not the main idea of the contest as explained. However this system was way more efficient than the free months we have given away in past to keep the activity up.

And for discussions. That's also not true, majority of discussions is not in the premium section. The premium section has one chat thread which most of the activity there is, and the premiums seem happy about that, however it's a very minor part of the discussions on NB in total and we would be happy if more of the premiums actually participated in the section more as most of them does not.

Nobody so far has complained about the contest, and everyone so far has enjoyed it.. so as long people are happy and the response is this great, I'll gladly host it. The day this will affect the rest of the sites activity in a negative way I will be sure to stop it, if that's what scares you.
