Yeah, they tie. There's no scenario possible where either one could win against each other unless we restrict the mirage genjutsu. To be honest this is another point against that whole "outlast the clam's time limit" argument... If Gengetsu managed to keep that genjutsu up for so long that both he and Mu lost a lot of chakra then clearly "outlasting" the clam isn't going to be viable for most shinobi unless he/she has absurd amounts of chakra like Kisame or the Raikages.

Depends. Chakra sensors cannot locate the clam [

], but theoretically one could locate the real Gengetsu through heat sensing or other auxiliary means, but if the clam truly cannot be located by anything other than contact type methods, then said auxiliary means of sensing wouldn't be able to locate him or the clam. I haven't found a full and reliable databook translation for the technique so it's hard to say. If we go off by what Naruto Wiki has to say, then yeah, only contact type methods would find the clam.
