Just a trend I noticed a while ago and wanted to get your take on it. Do you think certain genres of anime wind up getting better dubs than others, and is there a reason for it?

I say that cause I've noticed virtually every romance anime I watch gets destroyed when it's translated to English (i.e. Toradora!, Bakuman, etc.), but a great deal of action/comedies end up being great or at least passable (FLCL, Kill la Kill, etc.). Then, of course, the seinen or the really mature series usually end up getting the best dubs (Monster, Cowboy Bebop, etc.).

Anyways, you think there's some merit to this? I don't think it's a popularity thing cause shōnen don't often get the dubs they should, with mainly the exception of FMA (the Big 3 barely get a passing grade, and AoT got screwed over with the terrible script rewrites).

Meh, but it's a mixture of a lot of things, too. Steins;Gate and Eden of the East are that way, too, and those are amazing dubbed. That's why I say the straightforward ones like Toradora! wound up being way below par.

Hm, maybe they take action heavy anime series more seriously? I'm not so sure.
