Nope. It was Hinata Hime who saved Naruto from becoming the next Madara. Naruto ignored Itachi's advice and tried to carry the Shinobi Alliance and do it all himself. The Neji died and Obito used TnJ to try to turn Naruto to the Dark Side. Like Madara did to him and like the Emperor did to Anakin.

But that strategy would still be completely viable against someone like Bee for example...

I'm taking this opportunity to give you a fact for your thread. Perfect jins can break out of genjutsu because they use bijuu chakra which is an outside source. Technically Naruto can break out of genjutsu without it if he absorbed NE. Sasuke himself absorbed Senjutsu from the Curse Mark before breaking out of Tsukuyomi :xD:
