Differently from a series like Dragon Ball, were power levels are everything and the power scale is always linear, on the Naruto series matchups are really important. Of course, sometimes the power gap is so big that it does not make any difference (Madara's Katon will overpower Zabuza's suiton no matter how we look) but sometimes a seemilingly weaker character will prevail against a much stronger one because of a bad matchup.
Example A: Preta Path vs Mei vs Kiba.
This Path of Pain will low diff Mei, a Kage, because her entire moveset, even as strong that it is will be nullified by him. But he will also get low diffed by Kiba, a Jonin level shinobi, who's main form of attack is taijutsu.
Example B: Hanzo vs Temari.
Hanzo whitout knowledge can easily trumps against various Kage level shinobi thanks to his poisonous gas. But with basic knowledge and a reasonable starting distance he gets defeated by Temari, thanks to her Fuuton.
And how about you? Whats the worst matchup you can think of?
