What you tried doing worked a whole lot better on the 2nd avatar than it did the first. I think the style works better if you use darker backgrounds.

Yeah, I didn't really know what I was trying to achieve. XD I just played around. The first one did actually have a darker BG too, I think it must've been the gradient filter used on it. I agree though.
