Alright, back again with a triple release*_* This part contains the big reveal I had planned for this part of the story and trust me, it’s a MUCH bigger shock than anything else I might’ve done thus far. Anyways, hope you enjoy
Here’s my previous chapters, for those who missed any:
Chapter 064: Unveiled
The stadium fell silent as Hitomi and Taigen took their positions on the arena floor. For most, this was out of anticipation, while for a select few, it was in surprise at the latter’s participation in the match, the category under which their respective Kage fell.
Konohamaru: …I can’t believe he’s actually going to fight in the second round.
Kurotsuchi: Hm? You said something, Lord Hokage?
Konohamaru: (Realizing he’d spoken too loud, his eyes expanded slightly as he turned to his right, regaining his composure after little more than a second.) Huh? Oh…it’s nothing, Tsuchikage. (I have a lot of doubts about this match…be careful, Taigen.)
He wasn’t the only one to share these worries, as down in the stands below, his son began to express these same doubts.
Suzaku: I hope he can get through this…I didn’t think he would actually fight Hitomi.
Ayumi: (She wrapped her arm around his to comfort him, though she couldn’t hide the worry on her face, either.) He’s trained very hard to get here, Suzaku. …I think he’ll be fine.
Suzaku: (He looked at her for a moment and nodded before gazing back down at his young student.) I hope you’re right, hon…I hope you’re right.
Their feelings towards Taigen were clearly biased, but after watching his match against Ryūza in the first round, they certainly weren’t alone. In fact, by this point, the few attendees who were still supporting Hitomi consisted mainly of his direct family members, the youngest of whom was standing up and calling out to him.
Otome: Come on, baby! Make your clan proud!
Neji: (He smiled at his daughter’s vigor, though it quickly disappeared as he recalled Taigen’s previous match.) This boy managed to defeat the Kazekage’s grandson, though…will Hitomi really pull through this match all right?
Shien: (She gave a melancholy smile as she looked at him, grasping his hand to get his attention.) The Kazekage’s grandson focused too much on protecting himself and Taigen managed to slip past him. Hitomi is faster and much stronger. He’ll be just fine.
Otome: Have more faith in your grandson, Papa. After all, he’s much stronger than you were at that age.
Neji: (He smiled in amusement at this.) I suppose that’s true.
Down below, the match was all but ready to begin, prompting Hitomi to give some final words to his opponent.
Hitomi: For what it’s worth, Taigen…I’m sorry in advance.
Taigen: (His confidence having nearly peaked by this point, he merely smirked in response.) Don’t be…you’re the one who’s gonna lose.
His response causing Hitomi to grit his teeth, Taigen slid one of his feet back to get a better starting position as Baiko held up his arm.
Baiko: Alright…if both of you are ready…begin!
As one would expect from their last exchange, Hitomi was the first to take the initiative, but just as predictable, his advanced speed was still not enough to land a hit on Taigen with his superior reflexes.
Manako: So far so good.
Airon: (Noting the lack of enthusiasm in Manako’s voice, along with the fact that he was already aware of what he was hinting at, he quickly clued Taigen in.) (Don’t let Hitomi fool you, Taigen…he’s much faster than he’s letting on right now.)
Taigen: (He smirked in amusement as he dodged another swipe of Hitomi’s palm.) (I trained with you for the past five years, Airon…I’ve fought faster.)
Inase: (Watching the match with her Byakugan, she quickly called out to her brother after analyzing Hitomi’s strategy.) (He’s using Gentle Fist to expand his attack range…he’s really serious about this.)
Airon: (He tightened his grip on the railing as he replied.) (…Don’t remind me.)
Down below, Hitomi was indeed trying his best to land a hit on his opponent, though at the same time, he couldn’t help but feel confused by his current approach to the match.
Hitomi: (He’s not even attempting to attack me. He must be concerned about avoiding injury, after all…or perhaps he’s waiting for the right moment to strike.)
Sure enough, one purposefully overpowered swing of his fist later, Hitomi was robbed of his footing as Taigen whirled around to counterattack. Fortunately, his own impressive reflexes allowed him to catch himself in time to stop it.
Hitomi: (There it is!) Rotation!!
Sadly, even with the intense speed of his spinning motion, Taigen still managed to move away from the large barrier of chakra in time to avoid it, closing in on Hitomi again as soon as it began slowing down.
Hitomi: What!? (No!! My Rotation’s already ended!)
He hadn’t even fully come out of the spin before he was sent flying with a roundhouse kick to the cheek, which had been preceded by two swift punches to the chest and shoulder. The early turnaround sent silence all throughout the stands, broken just moments later by the most likely of sources.
Minto: He landed a hit…alright! Keep it going, buddy!
Airon: (Knowing Hitomi better than Minto, he turned to him with a frown and shook his head.) (I wouldn’t be cheering if I were you, Minto…he’s still very much in danger here.)
Minto’s smile immediately vanished and he looked back down at Hitomi, who had slowly began picking himself up before suddenly stopping on all fours, as though he were afraid to stand up any further. The ensuing silence caught the attention of even his grandfather, who turned to his wife in question.
Neji: One of them landed an attack on the other, didn’t they?
Shien: (She looked down at Hitomi before answering, sighing after briefly considering whether or not to give him the truth.) Yeah…it was Hitomi who took the hit.
Neji: (His eyebrows rose upon hearing this, and he looked up toward the high walls of the stadium as he pondered the results that such an incident could potentially bear.) …That isn’t good.
Towards the opposite end of the stands, Hitomi’s teammates shared Neji’s opinion, neither of them appearing either worried or upset that he received the first blow of the match.
Miyuki: I never would’ve thought Taigen could take on Hitomi…and now he’s even got him on the ropes.
Tenten: Well, don’t be so quick to make those kinds of statements, Miyuki. It was only one hit.
Lee: (He stared down at his student as he responded to his wife’s lack of concern, evidently waiting for something to happen.) Yes, but for Hitomi, that is all that is needed…to make him completely lose his composure.
While Tenten looked to Lee in surprise, down below, Hitomi’s fingers began curling into fists as he pressed his teeth together with as much force as they could withstand, the veins around his eyes pulsating uncontrollably.
Hitomi: (I’m being humiliated…again! He’s gonna pay!!)
He slowly returned to his feet as Taigen watching in anticipation with a smile etched across his face, which grew even wider when Hitomi suddenly slipped as he placed the second foot down. Sadly, Taigen didn’t even stop to watch him quickly regain his footing before taking off – the accident having obviously been a ploy to lure him closer.
Taigen: You’re mine now!
Airon: TAIGEN, LOOK OUT!!!
Hitomi: ROTATION!!!
Taigen once again moved in time to leap past what would’ve normally been the range of Hitomi’s barrier, but with the extra surge of chakra brought on by his anger, that range suddenly expanded threefold, briefly engulfing his opponent before sending him flying over a dozen yards away.
Minto, Nakama, and Suzaku: TAIGEN!!!
Through a combination of swift reflexes and pure luck, Taigen managed to land on his feet and hand before sliding back several more feet, his right knee mere inches from the ground. Both his teammates and Airon held their breaths as he stood there heaving his own, finally exhaling a few seconds passed.
Nakama: He’s alright…thank goodness.
Minto: Phew, I thought for sure he was fixing to-
He barely had time to finish his thought before Taigen disappeared beneath a cloud of smoke, taking the color in Airon, Minto, Nakama, and Suzaku’s faces along with him. Even Hitomi could only watch with wide eyes as the smoke cleared, revealing a medium-sized dog covered in thick gray fur. Those who knew him well enough responded with either saddened or horrified expressions, while everyone else was initially overcome by confusion.
Sabure: He just transformed all of a sudden…why?
Having already figured it out himself, Sabure’s brother squeezed his fists in fury as he stared down at Taigen with blazing eyes. Even their grandfather couldn’t help but express mild anger at what was standing before him.
Ryūza: …I don’t think he transformed, Sabure.
As Sabure turned to him in shock and then back again, Taigen’s legs had begun shaking against his will as he looked up at the competitors’ balcony in fear.
Taigen: U-uhhhh…M-Minto!?
Minto, too, was completely speechless, a look of utter disbelief melded to his face. He stared down at him for several seconds before looking to his old friend for advice.
Minto: Airon…
Airon had no answer to give, and he kept his head low as the reality of the situation began to set in for everyone else in the stadium, including Suzaku and his father overhead.
Konohamaru and Suzaku: …Damn it.
Taigen is a…ninken!!?
The End
