i think you missed the point made by yamamoto stating that "shinsui & ukitake are the first one's to pass the test for captains and the strongest captains".He is ill but he is a captain for so many years.so he is strong and each time shinsui & ukitake are shown as equals..

The case with Vizard hype they should be stronger than average captain in Gotei . The war arc made them look like gullible fodders .

I can list some inconsistency of powerup in bleach the list is huge . Personally criticizing the manga is even beyond me right now . Just enjoy the ending climax and some Aizen troll . Ukitake and others will go back to their base once OP level fighters enter into the fray .

Agreed !! I wouldn't be surprised if Orihime was Soul king's daughter.

The only explanation i could say is his Kamikake . This is the prize Ukitake payed when his parents requested to restore his organs .

Mimihagi grew inside him like a virus storing enough reiatsu to meet his match Yhwach .

If he had enough reiatsu, he would be the Captain Commander. The only weakness is his poor health ,the theory is Mimihagi stored in him got out to protect soul king storing enough reiatsu from Ukitake .

The only way Ukitake can fight without kamikake is they need hogyoku user to heal him with full powers.

Outdated statistics from a databook really have no relevance here. Ukitake was attacked from behind, in a straight up fight he probably would've beaten Wonderweiss.

It isn't really that surprising that Ukitake has massive Reiryoku and by extension massive Reiatsu as well. He was housing a god inside of him, and he was using his own Reiryoku as a makeshift life support system. That's pretty damn impressive, considering we only just learnt that Reiatsu can be used to communicate with others. His massive Reiatsu isn't plot in the slightest.

Him having high reiatsu levels was confirmed since the second arc of Bleach. During the fight with Yamamoto it was said both Shunsui and Ukitake together possessed Reiatsu/Power unmatched by their peers or predecessors. (Which was also said in the Character book since you brought it up) Ukitake and Shunshui also weren't overwhelmed when fighting Yamamoto which implies they themselves are in possesion of a large amount of Reiatsu.

And I hope you know Hitsugaya isn't weak. He lacks experience. He is actually one of the most talented Shinigami, unlocked his bankai at an age earlier than anyone else and became the youngest captain ever. He was able to see the spirit of his Zanpakutō before he even HAD it and his reiatsu was so strong and uncontrolled that it froze people around him. It was stated Hitsugaya would most likely be stronger than Shunsui, the current Captain Commander, in about 100 years.

It's almost like some people are just misinterpreting things on purpose.
