What if itachi's tsukuyomi is just a regular sharingan genjutsu but empowered by MS?
Before itachi fanboys come and state i'm bashing itachi, let me explain:
We have seen that sasuke and madara have both also used sharingan genjutsu with MS activated but they dont call it tsukoyomi, sasuke used MS genjutsu with the rock fodder to find bee's location, used it against bee, against raikage's guard whose name i dont remember, against a white zetsu, against danzo(though danzo was the only one capable of escaping this genjutsu on his own), and madara used it against raikage to paraize him, but like i said neither sasuke nor madara call it tsukuyomi.
So we know that even if itachi doesnt activate MS, his genjutsu are still of pretty high level, then it sounds likely that tsukuyomi is just a regular genjutsu of his empowered by MS which makes it more powerful and gives him more control but tsukuyomi is not a special ability of his MS.
Also why itachi calls his genjutsu Tsukoyomi? after all tsukoyomi is the name of the technique used by kaguya on the moon and i'm pretty sure kaguya was the one who named her genjutsu first. When itachi got his Ms he must have gone to read the stone tablet and then he saw the name tsukoyomi written on it and decided to name his genjustsu empowered by MS "tsukuyomi" after the infinite tsukoyomi of kaguya.
To sum it up, my hipothesis is that Tsukoyomi is not a special technique of itachi's ms is just a genjutsu empower by ms and its name was borrowed from kaguya's genjutsu.
Note: for those of you who are defending itachi's tsukoyomi, i'm not saying tsukoyomi is not powerful, i'm saying tsukoyomi is not a special ability of his ms, is more like a genjutsu perfected with ms, kinda what kakashi did with chidori, before kakashi had his sharingan chidori was an incomplete technique and when he got it he completed chidori, it's kind of the same with itachi's tsukoyomi.
