was a Japanese tale which is likely where Kaguya's name in Naruto is derived from.

Well it would be awesome if they did like an entire ookotsuchi flashback from kaguya's time to the death of ashira and indra, the length of a transformers movie, 3 hours something. That would be the most epic movie ever!

Kaguya is said to be Japan's oldest folktale. A number of adaptations and Anime borrow tropes and themes from it.

Off the top of my head you have:

Naruto: with Kaguya Otosuki and Hashirama's buddha.
Sailor Moon: With a Moon Princess, a kingdom on the moon and a forbidden love with a Prince on Earth
Inuyasha: Inuyasha's robes are made of hair of the fire rat and are immune to flames. In the tale of Kaguya, robes of the fire rate are one of the 5 treasures she commands her suitors to bring her.

There are others but I can't remember them all at the moment.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya is based on Kaguya's source Material, not the same potato on steroids we know and tolerate.

Probably. I don't actually know. But it's definately not the same Kaguya.

Technically, it is. Naruto's Kaguya is clearly a reference to the original, not just in name, but story as well. They are both princesses from alien worlds who harness the power of the moon. The original Kaguya is born from a stock of bamboo while Naruto's makes her first in person appearance as the blossom of the shinju.

Actually, Kaguya herself makes an appearance as the main antagonist in the second Inuyasha film, and her powers and goals are very similar. She was an antagonist in another anime, but I forget which one. Sir Derp Obito would know. I also found a lot of other female antagonists that compared to her villain version. The White Witch from the Narnia novels and films, Jenova from Final Fantasy 7, Daemon from Reboot, etc, though they're faaaar greater villains than she was lols. So much so that I don't really even like to compare them anymore, but here are some images.

The movie is awesome. Unlike Kaguya in Naruto or Inuyasha movie, She is a girl with an aura of princess but she never desires to be like one. She just wants a simple life. Her step father never realizes this and tries to marries her off to nobles and she keeps refusing. In the end she goes back to moon.

I thought of Kaguya Otsutsuki too when I heard the name. It doesn't have anything to do with her, though, it's a completely different story... which is a shame, I'd like to know more about her.
