He has no counter for any genjutsu from itachi...

Every fight starts out with face to face conversation so minato will get put under genjutsu and totsuka blitzed

Also itachi ain't letting a kunai get close to him...it's a manga fact that he is the best at using kunai or shuriken...look at him vs sasuke...sasuke summoned hundreds of shuriken and itachi deflected all of them...

Come to think of it, Itachi could defend himself by generating his Susanoo defence whilst then casting Tsukuyomi on Minato. Once Tsukuyomi has been cast then Itachi can use the Totsuka Blade and it's GG.

For those who'd say Itachi wouldn't be able to cast his Susanoo in time i'd say i wouldnt rule it out seeing as he was able to cast Susanoo instantly against Sasukes Kirin Attack.

But then again... Minato is extremely fast heh hehe

Nowhere in the manga does itSay or Show minato's base speed to equal v1 aye who 3 tomoe sasuke was able to react too. It wasn't until v2 lightning armor that sasuke couldn't react too...

This thread has seen a lot of well construed arguements and we have reached a consensus. So after much brainstorming we have reached the following conclusions :-
1) Minato should beat Itachi
2) Itachi is a more interesting character than Minato
I would like to say that I agree with these conclusions and would further like to add that it would have been great if Minato vs Itachi actually happened.

Itachi has no personality, the databook pretty much summarises the attitude of a character on each of their profiles, this is Itachis:

Itachi has the same blank emo expression that people seem to love so much, yet apparently this is what people call personality. At least Minatos mood changes, and isn't restricted to one default setting like Itachi.

Moron, Naruto never used shunshin against edo Itachi, so your logic fails. They only faced off in taijutsu.

Naruto wasn't 100%, he had already made dozens of shadow clones and sent them across different battlefields. So Narutos chakra had been heavily divided, meaning he couldn't fight full capacity.

Naruto wasn't fighting Itachi seriously. Itachi attacked Naruto, Naruto was only trying to talk him about Sasuke. Itachi fans always seem to neglect this.

If Naruto wanted to blitz him, he could have. Ms Sasuke couldn't even keep up with Ay, yet you think Itachi can track KCM Naruto Lol
