Norton is terribly memory intensive.

The best are avast! and Avira, take your pick.

Here's the link:

the best free anti-viruses are:

1.essentials -easy to use and takes little space + it requires weekly updates
2.Avg - reliable but takes quite a bit of space
3.avira - ...hmm i advice you choose either 1 or 2

Essentials is junk.

Tests show that it misses nearly half of all threats that could possibly compromise a machine; it's not at all recommendable. The best ones that perform well in memory usage, detection rates and overall performance are Avast! and Avira.

Nobody who really knows about this would even count WSE.

Wha operating system do you run?
Windows 8.1 comes with security essentials integrated into it already and updated automatically.
I use Linux Ubuntu 14.10, so I don't have a need for Antivirus software, yet. D
You don't need anti-virus that much these days, as Chrome provides a very good built-in online protection.

I use AVG and it's working just fine for me, since I'm not into all the IT stuff so honestly I don't give a **** about it...

Here's the comparisons:

Performance and Impact
You must be registered for see images

Overall Protection
You must be registered for see images

(MSE = Microsoft Security Essentials)

Overall, MSE's detection rates have been as pitiful as 59% out of a possible 100%. And AVG is neither great with protection nor speed, only above MSE for protection and the worst performer.

There is not such thing as free antivirus program. If someone takes the time to make a program to protect your computer and update the same for new threats. You should know that it won't be done for free.

Microsoft Security essentials is your best bet but only if you use the original microsoft shit.

I could've sworn that it was closed couple weeks ago :|

I think one is. Lol You could also have been thinking of ThePirateBay.

Those free versions are never the best bet and do more harm than good. But if it works for you.....

My sides. Lol No, it's normally identical to the paid one, just a lot less functions and things.

Another example:

Click "Go to Download" and it'll take you to the comparison chart.
