I mean Shukaku should have came out once Gaara was knocked unconscious. Once Gaara's uses his sleeping justu then he allows Shukaku to come out but if he is already knocked out then Shukaku should have control.

I think the Ichibi feeds on Gaara's chakra and needs his body for him to "awaken". However, Gaara's used most of his chakra during his battle with Deidara and sustain serious injuries.

That's when he has control and puts himself to sleep. He wasn't put to sleep, he was blasted to hell and knocked out. Gaara also gained termperance and lost the rage and insanity that summoned shukaku.

I know but in the circumstance where Gaara needs to be put to sleep for Shukaku to come out, it made me think. Gaara is unconscious which should allow Shukaku to take over.

Isn't everything plot? Lol.
