Plothole in Road to Ninja

In the film they say a masked man (Menma, the real Menma) has been capturing kekkei genkei over the years, yet everyone acts like Naruto had always been there when he and Sakura arrive in the genjutsu world. Doesn't this create a pretty significant plothole?

It was genjutsu, but that world had a backstory.

Part of Obito's plan was to cast doubt on Naruto's mind by portraying what could have been with a darker version of himself. Menma and Menma were two different sides of the same coin; coexisting but complete opposites living their own versions of one life.
