I am trying to comprehend the minds floating about in Studio Pierrot, on why they personally thought it would be a good idea to provide us with this:

... instead of ... y'know ... this ...

The manga is over, so I can't see the reason why they have to prolong the plot with unnecessary fillers such as these, especially those that revolve around characters that weren't present in the manga.

Personally I would had rather if they did something like the aftermath of the Kakashi Gaiden, since it revealed some backstory on Yamato and his history with Root.

The reason fillers are still going is because they need time to animate the short novels and movies so that there is no downtime once the Anime wraps up and potentially loosing fans/viewers before they cash in as much as possible.
