Re: PhotM: Discussion Thread

@Akasha, can we get a deadline extension till Sunday?
I want to take my photo but sadly, no time during weekdays.
Double posting, not even sorry.
I think most people have finals this week as well (At least I have finals this week >_O)

Then I´ll be free for 2 weeks xD
I'll be pushing the voting thread for next week, 24-25th of December to be exact.

Re: PhotM: Discussion Thread

I'll bring issue of smaller amount of submissions when it comes to this contest yet once again. The problem is that I can't continue on making voting threads with number of submission being very low. I think slowly, if we continue this way we won't really be able to achieve anything as it is kinda loosing its point. I don't plan to open up voting thread yet for the last PhoTM duo to only having a single person submit their photography. I would like to try and by talking with all of you who have been taking part thus far create a settlement which will allow this contest to be more active or well active as it was before. I changed last months' submission duo to a smaller amount of people applying as well as subsequently to some saying that the theme that I chose doesn't make it easy as to make the actual photography for it as it would require a lot work. By using some of the recomendation for themes I created the January PhoTM with a rather broad theme but it seems that either way not as many people applied. I don't really want this contest to die out because of the low number of submissions but I'd like to hear your opinion on the matter. What do you think can be done as to make this contest more alive and active as well as to attract greater number of people who will after partaking once want to do that as well again. Do you want me to increase the submission period? Voting period? I will appreciate any kind of suggestions and take them into consideration.

Re: PhotM: Discussion Thread

The problem stands in this contest itself. No matter what theme, a good photography is hard to take. It could have been way easier if the participants didn't have to put the NB logo somewhere in the photograph. Photograph is about catching the moment, thus we can't always have the NB logo or a writen piece of paper with the NB on it. But yeah, the January theme was not that hard. I think, because the only submission was very good, no one bothered to do anything.
My opinion is purely subjective. Other members may have different opinion regarding the lack of submissions.

I agree with that part. Specially since my family doesn´t know that I participate in forums so taking pictures with "NB - PhotM - Uzumaki Naruta" or "NB" on it is ackward and puts me in an uncomfortable position in my family. Thing is, the "NB" part is included for avoiding Photo-Ripping, so that rule shouldn´t be changed.

As for the theme: I can´t get any good idea of how to take the picture. Since I like things being "unique" in their certain way and if I, for example, bought a bunch of candies and then take a picture of them it´s kind of like, nothing special in it as most people would do that.

Re: PhotM: Discussion Thread

the problem of not having the "Nb" is that people can cheat. its hard to prove who took the picture. i can easily go to DA and steal a few picture and submit them as my own.

i do not fully disagree with you. i do have difficulties in trying find the right shot with the nb proof or the right place for it.

Re: PhotM: Discussion Thread

I agree that having to add the NB prefix sometimes (all the times) makes taking a good picture harder (and annoying). I was a supporter of this tactic from the beginning to reduce cheating but I believe there are other ways that don't affect the outcome of the picture that much.
So my suggestion is to eliminate the NB prefix and instead of it take 2-3 similar pictures to prove the authenticity. Most of the times anyway we take a bunch of pics to create the perfect shot, so I suggest we submit 2-3 of them to the host along with the entry. Those picture could be from a different angle or have "signs" that shows it was made by us (like thumbs up, adding a random object, anything that shows that's not a stolen pic). The "good" picture can be submitted to the entries thread as always but at the same time the participants must send a PM to the host with their entry shot and the 2-3 authentication shots. Pictures that fail to pass the authentication test won't be added to the voting poll.

Re: PhotM: Discussion Thread

I think the problem with the low submission is how hard the theme is. Like people are not gonna buy candy just to take a picture lol. Well imo cause I wanted to get pictures online and edit them, but I realize that wasn't allowed, so it makes it much harder for people to make a photm entry.

No offence, but I don't like this idea It's too much. People are going to lose interest if we have to take authentication shots, like it's too much work. Just make it simple with putting a sign of NB

So making a NB sign and trying to place it in the pic in a way that doesn't ruin the picture and also blends in with the theme is easier than clicking 3 times your camera than 1. Legit.
I personally don't know anyone who only takes one shot of the theme he/she wants to present, so I don't see any extra work here.

If it would be easier? Yes, yes it would. But don't you think the contest would lose its meaning and purpose of bringing NB and real life together? The presence of something NB-related is essential, so I don't think that should be an issue.

I just very recently started participating and I really don't want it to end. People should realize they don't need a sophisticated and expensive camera, just the usage of their ideas and creativity. Or maybe people here on the Base aren't into photography that much. :(
