Getting the Tenseigan

Question for somebody who watched the movie. How exactly was Toneri's Tenseigan activated? Did it really involve the Tenseigan altar, or was the simple act of transplanting Hanabi's eyes enough to activate them?

I'm talking about the Tenseigan eyes themselves, and not the Tenseigan Chakra Mode.

A good way to answer would be to tell the tale of the events that took place in the lead up to him getting the eyes.

From what I read, the 1000 byakugans being sacrificed was part of history, and not during the events of the movie. This is what confuses me as I've read that the upgraded eyes may involve the sacrificed eyes.

Then again, I've also read that the sacrificed eyes made part of the 'tenseigan weapon', which was supposedly separate from the eyes themselves?

For a thousand years, the descendants of Hamura Ōtsutsuki sealed their eyes within the Tenseigan altar, a giant orb accumulating tremendous power. If they determined that mankind were using their chakra for evil after a millennium, they would unleash that power upon them.

Due to the sealing away of their eyes within this clan, Toneri was born without eyes. As the last survivor of the Ōtsutsuki clan, he concluded that mankind did in fact use chakra for evil purposes and he's determined to fulfil his clan's thousand year vow and destroy humanity by dropping the moon on the Earth. However, Toneri did not have any eyes since birth and decided to steal Hanabi Hyūga's Byakugan by kidnapping the heiress. After taking her eyes and combining the power of countless generations of sealed Byakugan that were sacrificed by the Ōtsutsuki clan, he awakens the Tenseigan.

That implies that he transplanted the eyes first, AS BYAKUGAN, went through some ritual and awakened the Tenseigan from there. How does the movie show these scenes? Does it actually show him with the byakugan at any point?

From what I saw he simply implanted Hinabi's eyes since he encountered Hinata and Naruto just a short while after taking the eyes and he was using their abilities

The requirements I'd say would just be being an Ootsutsuki, but it may have been linked to the eyes of Hamura's children that were sealed for a 1000 years since at the end a light is seen leaving his eye and said light returns to him as thousands of byakugan :|

finally. .

So, let me get this straight:

Requirements:
* Ootsutsuki blood
* Transplanted Byakugan (of Hagoramo descent?)
* Previously sealed Byakugans

What happens:
* Ootsutsuki transplants the Byakugan into his empty eye socket.
* The moment he opens his eyes, they sync with the sealed byakugans (or something) and absorb their power
* Bang! Tenseigan and its Chakra Mode!


That brings me to. . .

One logic I see behind it is that the transplanted byakugan turns into Tenseigan due to the absorbed power of previously sealed eyes.
* What if two Ootsutsuki users did the same? Think they'll both get the upgrade?

It also seems logical that the sealed eyes be the source of the powers. That the ability to use these powers is not of Byakugan, but Tenseigan.

That could lead to the Tenseigan simply being caused by the transplant. It only has one hole I can think of, which is that Hanabi only got her Byakugan when the eyes were transplanted back.
