So if insulting someone has its consequences, it should have been made clear when someone decided to publish art with a Crucifix in a tank of Urine with federal funding (S:

) nearly 25 years ago. It is hypocritical to suddenly change stances when one finds it difficult to call some barbarians for what they are. France has been used to satire/insults to all religions and figures for years without dire consequences ... but suddenly it is very insulting that even killing might be justified? Get a spine before you talk first.
Iam myself French and live in France, freedom of speech doesn't exist here and never will.
Simple exemple among countless cases :
Dieudonné the famous french humorist who was there at the marche of Paris. A day later he has been arrested for "advocating terrorism" . He'll be judged in the court and risk 7 years in prison.
Why?
Because the humorist dared to say in his facebook that he felt like Charlie Coulibaly "Je me sens Charlie Coulibaly"
Apology of terrorism for "i feel"? France became delusional especially when we review a frontpage of Charlie Hebdo " Merah come back" and no condamnation there.

Freedom of expression for some, right to shut up to others.
Can you cite countless example from before the attack? When the attack and killing happened it set off an paranoia regarding safety .... So can you cite examples where Freedom of Speech was violated when such incidents didn't occur?
Also you yourself reported a news where a guy threatening a Mosque was arrested too ... So doesnt that mean anyone speaking in favor of anything similar to an attack is being penalized?
What a lot of guys dont want to understand the freedom of speech is one of the most important part of the human rights which were created after a long time periode of blood shed. It isnt only an attack against the drawers of the cartoons it also an insult to the people who fought for the right expressing their speech no its an attack against humanity. You can't justify murder in our democracy. These terrorists are like a bunch of psycho kids who can't counter an insult instead they use their fists.
And yes even an insult is a way of express your opinion.
i never justified the attacks, the murders should have never happen and is such a shame that things like this still happen, but the cartoonist were provoking the wrong people, they were imprudent and they disrespeted a culture and a religion, the cartoonist are nowhere near to be heroes for me, what would you expect after provoking dangerous people? if i call the mother of someone a ***** cannot expect a good reaction from that person because i'm provoking that person, the cartoonist did the same they provoked the wrong people, my point here is you can state your opinion without coming to disrespect or mock people and their culture
Anyone can and should be able to say whatever they want, insulting someone to their face isn't the same, that's harassment which intrudes upon the freedom of another, but no one is forcing you to buy the magazine and noone is shoving the cartoons in your face
You said about 5 times that what the terrorists did was wrong but you also basically said that the cartoonists got what they deserved
If I want to say something about Muhammad or Jesus or Obama or Lil' Kim from Korea or Napoleon or the flying sorcerer of looneyville I will
No one should be affraid for their safety because of what they said/wrote
i agree no one should be hurt for stating they're opinion, but insulting someone to their face and insoulting with a magazine can be consider as provoking too, again like i said no one should be killed for stating their opinion but the reality tells us we are not in an ideal world where we can be safe like that, people get killed everyday for no reason then why give them a reason why provoke people who is dangerous if we know it, humanity will be like this until we desappear so we have to be prudent and measure our words
Freedom of speech should have its limits. That is the problem with the average human population. You give them liberty and they misuse it. The original purpose of this mode was to give voice to the people. Now they have too much voice. I am surprised didn't see this coming. I don't condone their killing, nor am I against it. Looks like they got the fame they were after. Too bad they are not here to reap the benefits.

There is the problem, we should not be afraid for our safety no matter what we say, and if there are situations where we have to be maybe we need to do something about those situations
We shouldnt compromise our values because of crazy lunatics
Freedom of Speech doesn't pick and choose. Either you have it all, or you have none. Such is the nature of the beast. Offensive 'comedy' doesn't cross the mark into clear and present danger category.
Offensive humor has also never been considered provocative of a massacre, except under tyranny. People that are insane enough to gun down people over a comic never needed a good reason anyways, it would always be something when dealing with people that evil.

but we are not in an ideal world instead we are in a world with wars all over the planet, we have racism, we have people with way too much money while there's people who dont even have a thing to eat, we have people who are willing to kill for money, a piece of ground and for their beliefs so yes that shouldnt happen but we are not in a perfect world where everything runs as it should, and for that kind of change it takes a long time, how do get expect people to change if we're not willing to change as well?
and i also dont think there's any value in mocking people and their beliefs, words can hurt as much as physical violence, so is there any value in being able to hurt people?
