how does obito know where he appears?

When obito hacked into kaguya's main dimension he said he had already mark that dimension, note he said dimension instead of saying place or sorroundings whatsoever, which could be interpreted as once obito knows a dimension is there he can access that dimension from different points not nessesarly from the point where he marked the dimesion.

So my guess is once obito has marked a dimension he can scan that dimension without having to be physically there, kind of a telescope, he just has to browse through the places of the dimension and once he finds the place where he wants to land he makes the jump.

Also it could also be that obito having marked a dimension can sense all the chakras moving around it, that would explain how obito found naruto in the land of iron, or kisame whe itachi died or sasuke in the middle of the forest, also when obito and sakura were searching for sasuke once obito opened a portal wihout having to even enter he said "i dont sense sasuke's presence there" which kind of proves he aware of the chakras inside a dimension.

So to sum all up, i'd say obito can by just marking a dimension see what´s in the other side and also can sense all chakras moving in that dimension, and he can move freely within those dimensions even he has set a foot before in there as long as he marked the dimension.

Well that does make sense. I'm inclined to believe that he was only able to mark Kaguya's dimensions the moment she used her S/T since those dimensions belong to her.

How he knows where to teleport is something I don't know. I'm guessing if he's in the real world, he can sense stuff in his dimension. While he's in his dimension, he can sense stuff in the real world. While he's existing in both dimensions at once (phasing/overlapping with something), he can't sense in neither dimension.


Examples:
Real world- He knows where stuff is located in his dimension. Ejects stuff from there as well (Shuriken/Stakes/Fuu and Torune)

Kamui dimension- He knows where stuff is located in the real world. Able to transport himself any location without having actually marked it like FTG. He knows where individuals are and has teleported to them (Minato/Naruto/Sasuke/etc.)

Both places at once (In the real world while a part of him is in his dimension)- Wasn't able to sense BM Naruto's clone in his dimension while he overlapped with TBB. Wasn't able to sense Kakashi's presence when he Raikiri'd his stomach (he looked dumbfounded).


Idk really it's speculation on my part since what I just mentioned could be explained in different ways. Or could be simply called "ass pull".

Although like he said, actually traveling or opening up portals to those dimensions drains him since they don't belong to him.

that does seem to be the case when he opens a warmhole between 2 dimension that are not his, but if he has already marked that said dimension, he first teleports to kamuiland and them to the other dimension and less chakra would be consumed like he did when obito and sakura hid from kaguya in kamuiland and came back without any apparent effort as sakura wasnt providing any chakra to obito
