Do you think the Naruto/Sasuke relationship was overstated in the manga?

Thinking about all the time Naruto and Sasuke actually interacted with one another; after being assigned to Team 7 for an undsiclosed amount of time (possibly a few months), the lengths Naruto goes through to bring Sasuke back and the amount of time Naruto committed to that cause (5 years). Does the amount of focus the Naruto - Sauske relationship in the story seem overstated/overplayed to anyone else? I mean Sasuke was not the "Best of friends" with either Naruto or Sakura. He respected Kakashi's power but never saw himself as being inferior to Kakashi. It seems like what was driving Naruto and Sakura to reunite with Sasuke was rose-tinted nostalgia more than anything else.

They weren't friends, they were rivals. Their relationship grew through wanting to be stronger than the other. They had a lot of moments so...

Agree. I've been saying this since forever but naruto and sasuke never came off as "best friends". Naruto just looked like some obsessed stalker with a guy who clearly didn't want to be friends. Hell he didn't even attend his wedding to hinata.

Hashirama + Madara friendship>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Naruto and sasuke "friendship"

Can't argue that. Hashirama and Madara were at least cordial to one another. They shared their hopes and dreams for the future. Family circumstances divided them but together they were able to found and build the Leaf village. They changed the Ninja World, and other clans and nations soon followed their model.

Sasuke only cared about his own ideals and goals and cast Team 7 away as soon as a better offer to achieve his ambitions arose. The least Sasuke could've done was stayed in the Leaf and helped rebuild the Ninja World in to a more constructive system.
