A while ago, I made a thread about the most overrated things in life. Now, it’s time to do the opposite. What do you think are the 3 most underrated things in life?

Mine:

Time – Ever been in a situation when you were like “I should have started this assignment much earlier.”? Yeah, I’m certain everyone has been through something similar. It doesn’t have to revolve around your school work; it can be anything from regretting to join a club earlier to wishing you should've spent more time with your friends & family instead of sitting your lazy ass down all day in front of a computer. Lost time cannot be regained. There are times when I wish I could turn back the clock but couldn’t. There is an old saying that goes “Don’t leave tomorrow what you can do today”. So make the most out of your time and don’t leave things till the last minute before it becomes too troublesome.

Being alone – People often associate loneliness with sadness and depression and would do anything to avoid being alone. This isn’t entirely true as there are times when people are better off being alone. For example, I often study alone and rarely in a group of friends. I find the latter tends to have a negative impact on my work ethics because we do more socialising than working. Another example is when you're dealing with personal issues or dilemmas. Spending time with yourself is a great way to evaluate where you are with your life and reflect on the things that you want to accomplish. So being alone isn't all that bad. There are times when it is necessary for your growth and development.

Water – This is by far the best fluid you can drink as there are many health benefits that are associated with drinking water (just Google em ya fools). It’s a much better health alternative than those carbonated soft drinks that are loaded with sugar. Nutritionists recommend people to drink at least 2L of water per day but unfortunately many don’t reach this daily intake of water. This is quite surprising since water is, most of the time, widely available and highly affordable. But don't even think about buying those $5 water bottles at the cinemas unless you're really dehydrated. Lol

Happiness.

So many people are willing to forgo their happiness for money, power, love, friendship, etc. when these things should provide happiness, not feed off of it.

I had another, but I forgot while typing this.

Parkour. Most people look down on this sport due to the nature of it, and as a practitioner of this sport, I can speak for all of the community when I say it's one of the best ways to get outside, have fun and get fit.

I agree with you on loneliness and water as well. Water is the best drink.

Most underrated things in my life:

1. Solitude. People always fear it, telling to get a company, someone to spend time with. In my opinion, only those who are incomplete as persons are affraid of being alone and really depend on people around them.

2. Biology. People seem to underestimate the mechanics of our bodies, coming up with cool ideas of human, as a kind, being so much different from animals, forgetting that the biggest part of our psycho is very same as said animals'. Instincts and reflexes are being explained as something way too complicated just due to people believing the're that much special. Thus they misunderstand some simple influences on their bodies and primal needs with psychological manipulation. I'd call it arrogance in it's prime.

3. PE. It's basicly a part of the previous point: since people don't understand how our bodies work, they think that PE is only for "looking beautiful" or "showing off by being able to do some stuff others can't". They try to excuse their laziness and lack of willpower to heal themselves, eating dozens of pills, not even realizing that most of our diseases are easily cured and prevented by PE on regular basis.

Most overrated things in my life:

1. Pain. People fear pain as if it's something dreadful, not realizing that it's simple neural signals from our cells to our brain, saying that something unusual and perhaps not healthy is going on in a certain part of our body. People fear pain more than it's cause, and the're fine with the fact that, for example, after taking a painkiller their head stops hurting, not even thinking that the problem that had caused the pain is not solved at all.

2. Love. I've been in love quite a few times in my life (I'm 22 years old now), both mutual and one-sided, so I've tasted it quite well. I can tell for certain that it's always pretty much the same. There is nothing special about it, it's one of our natural needs, far from most important tiers of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. I'm not married, but to be honest, I'd rather marry a woman that I know well and respect and all (and vise versa), even if I don't feel some passion and so on, than some sexy chick I'm obsessed with for the time being.

3. Media. They say that media manipulates our minds and brainwash us, but I believe that every person with IQ above average and vast knowledge about our world (wich in my opinion every mature person must possess) can filter information they recieve, dividing wheat from the chaff.

1. Love
2. Eyelashes/eyebrows
3. Film

I had books there at first, but to be honest, I think Film is more underrated than books. I think great films can be on the same level as books, but no one really thinks you're sophisticated for being a film buff as opposed to a book buff and things like that. Book clubs are deemed classy, but a film club wouldn't, because films are easier to "get." I think there should be classes on film. Not just how to make film, but classes where you analyze films, just like a class where you would analyze Literature.

I agree with the first two. I'll add happiness instead of water.

Underrated:

Manga/Anime - Often people think it's an idiot's form of entertainment.

Overrated:

Growing up - All being an adult means is working so that we can buy things we don't need to impress others we don't care about.

Furthermore, I think that happiness is very overrated. It's esssense is very simple: the're certain hormones in our body that make us happy, synthesized by doing certain and well known actions, and the easiest and straightest way to synthesize them is taking heroin injections. Does it really worth it? I honestly can't understand how can someone consider "happiness" their highest priority in the life. It's so useless, pointless and just... meh.
