I was under the impression Haku was just playing dress up and used a fake ANBU mask as part of the act him and Zabuza played. Since Zabuza was a missing-nin at that point. Failed assassination of the Mizukage and all.

Alright, my "village" is the ruins of Uzushiogakure no Sato.

Not being a part of a village doesn't mean that people would want to go to Orochimaru, that is illogical thinking.
